About the job

Would you like to work internationally with capacity building for a more sustainable food production in countries such as China, Nigeria and Ukraine and at the same time help strengthen export opportunities for the Danish food sector? Then you may be our new colleague in the Center for International Cooperation (CIS) in the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration.

The green transition of food systems is essential in the fight against global climate changes. There must be delivered healthy and safe food to a growing global population. Denmark supports through development assistance and authorities' cooperation a sustainable transition through projects in Asia, Africa and Central America. The projects help develop better framework conditions in growth and developing countries within the food and agricultural sectors. The activities are also a tool to strengthen diplomatic relations and support Danish business interests.

We offer

An exciting position with independent responsibility for your own projects and room for ambition in a work area with challenging and varied tasks. You will receive a shared project management responsibility for two of the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration's international strategic sector cooperation (SSC) projects, which are coordinated in close collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the professional units in the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration.

You will become the international point of contact between the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration, the embassy and the partner authority in the respective country with responsibility for project and budget planning as well as implementation of activities in the partner country and Denmark. This happens in close interaction with professionals from the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration's professional units – all in the service of the green dossier.

Your daily life will typically consist of dialogue with your project partner at the embassy, dialogue and coordination with your colleagues from the professional units around concrete project activities, planning and follow-up on project activities, travel planning and execution as well as budgeting and follow-up on your own projects.

You will be employed in the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration's Center for International Cooperation (CIS). You can expect travel activity of about 5-8 weeks annually including weekends. There will be an option for remote work up to one day per week.

To be considered for the positions you must meet the following educational and experience prerequisites:

  • A relevant academic social or natural science education
  • Minimum five years of relevant professional experience

In addition you must have the following prerequisites

We are looking for a colleague who is

  • Outward-facing, good at collaborating and comfortable in the role as liaison and delegation leader on trips with the agency's professional experts
  • Thrives with the versatility of the project manager role and is motivated both by the international contact and by the more administrative tasks such as drafting concept notes, reporting, result collection and budgeting
  • Has strong collaboration skills and a pragmatic approach and can bridge different professional disciplines and perspectives and find good, common solutions

Center for International Cooperation

In the Center for International Cooperation we have a very good sense of community, where we naturally brainstorm about tasks and help each other in daily life. We grow as more projects come in. On each project there are two project managers who share the responsibility and continuously brainstorm with each other. That gives continuity in the projects and good opportunities to learn from each other. In the SSC team we discuss both project content and the bigger and smaller questions that arise along the way.

We have a fixed structure for sharing experiences and learnings from our travels and projects, and we usually have an opinion on most things. The job involves travel, international relations and collaboration with colleagues and partners in many different countries. But a large part of the project management work also takes place at the home desk.

Here the projects must be planned, the budgets set and followed up, and plans, reports and other documentation must be prepared in connection with missions, results follow-up and the annual reporting. The projects follow Danida guidelines, and you work closely with the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration's units, which provide the professional expertise for the projects.

When you start, we ensure you settle well into both the projects and the working method through on-the-job training, and on your first trips you will be accompanied by an experienced colleague.

We are 22 colleagues distributed across four teams

  • The SSC team, where the vacancies are located, currently consists of nine project managers and works with SSC projects in Ukraine, India, Mexico, Indonesia, Vietnam, Bangladesh, China, South Africa, Nigeria, Uganda, Egypt and the Philippines.
  • The EUI team assists the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration's units in EU procedures. In addition international cooperation with a number of strategically important third countries.
  • Internal Audit has the task of auditing the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration's control systems and identifying forward-looking improvement opportunities and good practices.
  • The Front Office assists the rest of the unit both administratively and practically. The team consists of two office assistants, an office apprentice and student assistants.
