About the job

Are you passionate about supporting soldiers and their families before, during and after deployment? Can you see yourself in a diverse and challenging everyday life with a sea of exciting tasks? Then we might be just the person we are looking for in the section for international operations.

About us

You will be employed in the Section for International Operations, which today consists of 16 colleagues, of whom 2 work in Slagelse. The remaining colleagues in the section are distributed in Aalborg, Karup, Fredericia, Ringsted, Copenhagen and Høvelte.

The section is part of the Military Psychology Department in the Veteran Center, totaling about 50 colleagues, of whom 30 are psychologists. The workplace is characterized by high professionalism, many exciting tasks and unique experiences. We value a learning environment and are happy to challenge conventional thinking with new research or development projects.

We work both with prevention and treatment, and therefore weekdays are seldom the same. We work preventively through, among other things, training of soldiers, contact visits during deployment and through mandatory conversations with all deployed soldiers after homecoming. We handle the subsequent treatment of soldiers and relatives who need support after deployment has ended.

The section also deploys psychologists to crisis tasks in connection with the international operations.

About the position

You join a well-functioning competent team, which works committed and goal-oriented within an area with many stakeholders and great societal and political attention.

Your duties will predominantly be

  • Teaching soldiers stress management prior to deployment
  • Teaching future leaders at the Defence's education programs (sergeant schools and officer schools)
  • Teaching in Military Mental Training
  • Assessment (evaluation) of veterans, soldiers and relatives
  • Individual, couples and group therapy
  • Interdisciplinary collaboration around client pathways with other professionals at the Veterans Center (social workers, outreach counselors, employment counselors, child counselors and physiotherapists)
  • Counseling via daytime duty phone
  • Joining the international crisis readiness

We ensure a thorough introduction to and training in the job, so you become familiar with the tasks. The team in Slagelse/Ringsted is an experienced team both mono- and cross-disciplinary, which provides you with good sparring and professional development.

We hold ongoing courses and offer systematic and regular supervision.

We also offer the possibility of flexible arrangement of your working hours and home work to a certain extent. Your place of employment is at the Veteran Center, Antvorskov Barracks in Slagelse, but there will be a considerable amount of travel activity in connection with task solving and training activities.

About you

You are a trained psychologist (cand.psych.) with authorization under the old regime. You thrive with working with evidence-based methods primarily within a cognitive framework, and you have the desire and willingness to teach. You bring your psychological professional competences into play both in relation to our preventive efforts and in the treatment of soldiers, veterans and relatives. Experience with crisis psychology work is an advantage, but not a requirement.

As a person you are open and independent with a desire to participate in daily collaboration with both your own and other professional groups.

You thrive well in an environment with many different tasks, all of which are solved where the soldiers are serving. You should expect some travel activity, and participation in our international preparedness means that in particular incidents abroad you must be ready to deploy and carry out a crisis psychology intervention together with experienced colleagues.

We set requirements for your flexibility and your competences, but through dialogue and planning there will be a focus on maintaining a good balance between your work life and private life.

Terms of employment

The employment takes place in accordance with the applicable collective agreement between the Ministry of Finance and a number of academic organizations for academics in the state (Academic Collective Agreement).

The salary is seniority-based, includes a centrally negotiated allowance, authorization allowance and the possibility to negotiate a personal qualification allowance. The position includes an employer-financed pension scheme of 18.07%.

The position is a full-time position of 37 hours per week and the appointment is January 1, 2027.

As an employee in the Armed Forces you are subject to some special terms. You must, among other things, be security cleared and maintain the security clearance throughout the employment.

You have as an employee an obligation to perform service outside the country’s borders, including at units in international operations with a view to participation in conflict prevention, peacekeeping, peacebuilding, humanitarian and other similar operations.

Special circumstances

You should be aware that there are physical and functional health requirements for the position, and that there is a requirement to be able to be deployed to international missions. This means that the employment is conditional on passing a selection at the Personnel Command. The testing consists of a physical test, a health assessment and a mental resilience assessment.

Date for the testing will be announced after the interviews and will need to be performed and clarified before we initiate salary negotiations and employment. You can read about the physical requirements at forsvaret.dk
