About the job
Would you like to use your professional skills as a veterinary nurse and at the same time be part of the daily life at an animal shelter? Then we may have the job for you.
At Roskilde Shelter, we help over 1,400 animals each year who need care, treatment and a new chance in life. We have our own veterinary clinic where we examine and treat the shelter's animals, but our work doesn't end at the clinic door.
We are seeking a veterinary nurse for a 12-month maternity cover, who wants to be part of both our clinic and the day-to-day operations at the shelter.
With us, you should be keen on both aspects. You should thrive with the veterinary tasks in the clinic, but also with the daily care, welfare and engagement with our animals.
About the job
You will become part of our engaged team, where you will work closely with our veterinarians, other veterinary nurses and shelter staff.
At the clinic, your tasks will include
- Assisting the veterinarians with examinations, treatments and surgeries.
- Preparing patients and equipment.
- Anesthesia and monitoring of patients in connection with surgeries.
- Care and observation of sick and injured animals.
- Medication management, record-keeping and other clinic tasks.
- Contribute to ensuring good workflows and high professional standards in the clinic.
When you are not working in the clinic, you will be part of the day-to-day operations at the shelter on equal footing with your other colleagues.
Here you will, among other things, contribute to the care and welfare of the animals, cleaning, feeding, enrichment, outreach/communication and all the other tasks that belong to daily life at a shelter.
We work with dogs, cats, rabbits and many other small companion animals, so it's important that you want to work with different animal species.
We do not expect you to know everything from day one, but we expect that you want to learn and be part of the whole shelter.
About you
You are trained as a veterinary nurse. Whether you have several years of experience or are relatively newly qualified is less important. The most important is that you are passionate about your profession and want to make a difference for animals that need help.
We place emphasis on you
- have a solid veterinary professional understanding and work responsibly
- are keen on both clinic work and the practical daily life at the shelter
- have a good broad knowledge of dogs, cats, rabbits and preferably other small companion animals
- thrive in a busy and unpredictable daily life
- can stay composed and maintain an overview even when many things are happening at once
- are a team player and believe we succeed best together
- are flexible and adaptable
- are positive, approachable and contribute to a good atmosphere
- have a robust mindset and can handle a workplace where emotions sometimes run high
It is important that you are motivated not only by the work in the clinic but also find joy and meaning in the practical tasks around the animals.
For us, cleaning, care and welfare are just as important a part of animal welfare as the treatment animals receive in the clinic.
A daily life where no day is the same
We are part of the Danish Society for Animal Protection's emergency response, and that means we never quite know what the day will bring.
Some days we are busy in the clinic with examinations and treatments. Other days the shelter's animals require our attention, and plans can change quickly.
We meet animals that have suffered neglect, illness and distress. It is a job that can be physically demanding and emotionally challenging. But it is also a job where you every day contribute to making a real difference.
You should therefore want a workplace where we help each other, and where we all take responsibility that the animals receive the best possible care.
We offer
You will become part of an organization with high professional standards, strong engagement and colleagues who truly care about what they do. With us you get:
- An exciting and versatile job with both veterinary clinical and practical tasks.
- A daily life with many different animal species and issues.
- Close collaboration with veterinarians and skilled colleagues.
- Opportunity for professional sparring and development.
- A workplace with a large group of dedicated volunteers.
- A strong sense of community with room for both humor and seriousness.
- A meaningful job where you help give animals a new chance.
About the employment
