About the job

Social educator for a 24/7 facility for youths – would you like to help make a difference?

Are you keen to become part of the city’s best workplace with a fantastic location and surroundings where homeliness is in focus? Furthermore, you will become part of a strong professional community with high ceilings, room for initiative and a focus on each individual youth’s path towards a more independent adult life.

About the job

We are seeking a trained social educator or an employee with a relevant social care background for our 24/7 facility for youths between 15 and 22 years old. You will join in shift work with varying hours – day/evening/night, weekends, holidays and possibly on-call duties.

Skansen is a 24/7 facility distributed over two sites with space for 13 youths. In addition, we offer youth support to 12 youths who live in their own accommodation.

With us, the focus is on personal development, housing and social training, and the development of the youth’s independence. We work purposefully so that the youths gradually become capable of managing an adult life with greater responsibility, independence and participation in society at large.

The individual youth’s effort is based on the Citizen’s Plan and is planned individually in close collaboration with the youth. At the same time, we actively use the community as a setting for developing social skills, responsibility and belonging.

What we work on

You will among other things help the youths to

· Develop and master everyday skills such as cooking, cleaning and budgeting.

· Maintain education, employment and other meaningful activities.

· Develop coping strategies and greater self-insight into their own emotional life.

· Enter and navigate social communities.

· Handle own challenges and take responsibility for their own life.

· Develop the competencies needed to live a more independent adult life.

Your tasks

As a pedagogical professional with us, you become an important adult in the youths’ daily life. You must be able to build a relationship, set a clear framework and at the same time give space for the youths’ own choices and motivation.

Your tasks will include, among other things, to

· Plan and implement individual housing- and social training.

· Work with individually tailored pedagogical interventions – both individually and in groups.

· Support the youths’ well-being, development and independence.

· Work in a motivating and creative way – also when motivation is hard to find.

· Maintain agreements and planned interventions, including for example substance treatment and psychiatric treatment programs.

· Collaborate / coordinate closely with colleagues, family/networks and relevant external partners.

· Document the pedagogical efforts and ensure coherence with the Citizen’s Plan.

· Actively contribute to daily life in the house functioning – practically, socially and professionally.

Professionally we hope that you

· Have strong relational skills and can build trust – even in complex situations.

· Can work in a structured, targeted and independent manner.

· Can set clear boundaries without losing focus on the youth’s self-determination.

· Work mentalizing and motivational, and meet the youth with respect, curiosity and care.

· Can translate professional knowledge into concrete pedagogical practice and reflect on your own approach.

· Dare to take responsibility, make decisions and act when the situation requires it.

· Can maintain an overview and be persistent, even when development does not go exactly as planned.

· Have good written skills and can document and communicate your pedagogical observations and reflections.

· Have experience from working with vulnerable or mentally fragile youths – this is an advantage, but not a requirement.

· Have a driving license for category B.

Who are you?

We are looking for you who are passionate about working with vulnerable and mentally fragile youths, and who thrive in a daily life where relationships, professionalism and clarity go hand in hand.

As a person we hope you are

· Present, clear and authentic in your meeting with the youths.

· Have a light spirit, humor and a positive approach – even on days when tasks are many.

· A team player who actively contributes to a strong and inclusive work environment.

· Able to collaborate respectfully with youths, families, colleagues and partners.

· Have an interest or skills in e.g. physical activity, creativity, music, cooking or other activities that can be used to create relationships and development through the shared third.

Our professional approach

We believe that the relationship is the foundation for development.

Therefore we work from a mentalizing approach, where we are curious about the youth’s perspective, feelings and intentions. We also use elements from Motivational Interviewing to support the youths’ own motivation and ownership of change.

We work with a clear ambition that the youth’s motivation should be the strongest driving force in the effort. This does not mean we loosen the framework – on the contrary. We create clear and safe frameworks where the youth has the opportunity to take responsibility and develop at their own pace.

We offer

· An open, trust-based and developmental professional community.

· Ongoing supervision and a strong culture of collegial sparring.

· High professional integrity and a strong focus on quality in the task execution.

· A workplace with room to grow and real opportunity to influence.

· Room for initiative, creativity and new ideas.

· A collegial community characterized by solidarity, humor and engagement.

· Opportunities to develop both your professional and personal competences.
