About the job

Do you want to contribute to quality of life, self-determination and wellbeing? Are you passionate about professionalism, documentation and care in practice?

Then you are the one we are looking for at Organization Vikingevej

Who are we?

The residential facility Vikingevej is a long-term social-pedagogical 24/7 residential care home under the Social Services Act (§105/85) with awake night supervision.

The facility is located at Vikingevej 31 centrally in Nørresundby and comprises 21 apartments spread over two floors with good common areas and outdoor spaces.

We strive to create a safe and homely environment where residents have the opportunity to live as independently and meaningfully as possible.

The target group is adults with congenital or acquired brain injury and physical disabilities, often combined with cognitive challenges such as communication difficulties, memory problems and sensory difficulties.

Many need support for personal care, health-care tasks and daily functions.

Our work focuses on maintaining and developing functional capacity, strengthening self-determination and creating wellbeing in daily life – and here the social-pedagogical work plays a central role.

Through structured relationship work, motivation and involving residents' own resources, we create frameworks for development and coping. The social-pedagogical work helps ensure that the citizen experiences meaning, safety and participation in their own life, while we work purposefully with methods and documentation to support quality and progression of the effort.

Our professional approaches

We work goal-based with outcomes based on residents' needs and wishes. We focus on residents developing and maintaining their own skills and possibilities to manage things themselves. Residents’ physical functional level is highly individual, which means you must be able to act in many different situations. Some residents only require verbal guidance, while the majority require help with several care tasks as well as practical tasks in the home. This requires that you can take responsibility and adapt to different situations.

We work from a combination of

The neuro-disciplinary approach, which helps us understand residents' behavior, motivation and functional level. This means we translate neuro-disciplinary knowledge into concrete pedagogical strategies, analyze reaction patterns and adapt the environment, communication and activities so that everyday life becomes manageable and less burdensome. We work preventively by identifying triggers and creating structures that provide calm and predictability.

The recovery-oriented rehabilitation (ROR) is a fundamental part of our work and involves supporting residents in living a meaningful life with as much self-determination as possible. We do this through dialogue about wishes and goals, by involving the resident in decisions and by supporting them in achieving mastery through personal routines, structure and focus on resources rather than limitations.

Low Arousal (LA2 and LA2U) is our central method for preventing and managing problematic behavior in a non-confrontational way. We work with adjusted and respectful communication, conscious regulation of our own arousal level and a de-escalating approach in pressured situations where the relationship and the resident's needs are the focus.

In daily work at Vikingevej LA2U is integrated in the pedagogical and rehabilitative practice. We work purposefully with calm, demand adjustment and structure to prevent overstimulation, conflicts and ill-being.

The methods must be visible in both practice and documentation in CURA, where effort, method and goal are clearly communicated.

About the job

In the Organization we have a strong focus on cross-disciplinary work, including mentoring each other across the facilities. As a employee at Vikingevej you will be part of a dedicated team consisting of 12 permanent staff, 3 awake night shifts, 1 activity and operations staff and a duty planner. In addition, the facility has a group of permanent temp workers who are employed at varying hours. We also have SSA students and pedagogy students.

The permanent staff work across disciplines in teams, and the staff group is broadly professionally represented and consists of social educators, occupational therapists and social and health care assistants, who work cross-disciplinary with:

  • Social-pedagogical support for daily functions, personal care, practical help in the resident's own home and health-care tasks.
  • Relation work, structure and motivation in the resident's daily life.
  • Documentation of interventions and methods in CURA as well as planning via Flow Effect
  • Active participation in professional reflection, supervision and competence development.
  • Participation in social activities and holidays with the residents.

We expect that you

  • Are educated as a pedagogue, social worker or occupational therapist, preferably with experience with the target group.
  • Have good writing and IT skills, as documentation is a significant part of the job.

We use CURA

  • Can apply the methods in practice and document them systematically so the effort is targeted and transparent.
  • Want to work with “Your, My and Our safety,” including health-care documentation and systematic risk assessment.
  • Can maintain an overview – even in pressurized situations.
  • Are professionally and ethically reflective and can think creatively in task solving. Are reliable, flexible and thrive in a changing daily life.
  • Have good collaboration skills, can set personal boundaries and maintain professional distance.
  • Are physically robust and have courage to perform personal care and practical tasks.

We offer

  • A meaningful job with high professionalism and possibilities for competence development.
  • A strong team focused on collaboration, wellbeing and professional reflection.
  • A social-pedagogical workplace with focus on the pedagogical, including relationship building and the health-care work.
