About the job

Social Educator at Skelhøj

Would you like to be part of a residential facility with high professional standards, strong collegiality and room for both development and humor?

At Skelhøj we are looking for a social educator who desires a daily life where relationships, professional reflection and interdisciplinary collaboration form the foundation of our work.

About Skelhøj

Skelhøj is a social-educational residential facility under the Danish Service Act §105 for adults with enduring physical and/or mental disabilities. We are beautifully located in Veksø with nature as our nearest neighbor and only a few minutes’ walk from public transport.

At Skelhøj, 30 residents live across four teams. Shared for all is that they live with developmental disabilities or a brain injury, which is congenital or acquired early in life. Many also have complex support needs and various additional diagnoses or functional impairments, such as anxiety, communication difficulties, altered perception of reality, mobility impairments or externalizing and internalizing behaviors.

This means that work at Skelhøj is meaningful, complex and varied. One day you might be at a café or out in nature with a resident in a 1:1 program, while the next day you collaborate with colleagues to create structure, safety and good communities for several residents in the house. A common thread through all tasks is that we meet residents with respect, professional curiosity and a belief that every person has the right to a good life with as much self-determination and quality of life as possible.

Professionalism and community in daily life

At Skelhøj we create the best framework for residents through professionalism, presence and secure relationships, but also through smiles, humor and the small moments that make everyday life valuable.

We work from a neuropedagogical framework with a basis in low arousal principles and a recovery-oriented approach. With respect for each resident’s resources, hopes, wishes and prerequisites, we create support that promotes participation, mastery and a meaningful life on their own terms.

Interdisciplinary collaboration is a central part of our practice, and we place high priority on professional reflection, supervision and sparring. This enables us to continuously develop our efforts and together create the best possible conditions for residents’ well-being and development.

No day is the same with us. You will become an important part of residents’ lives and have the opportunity to witness both small and large progress up close. It could be a resident mastering a new skill, participating in an activity or experiencing increased well-being and joy in daily life through the support you help create.

We offer

  • A strong collegial community where we help each other
  • High level of professional sparring and reflection
  • Opportunity to influence and develop practice
  • Attentive leadership focused on well-being
  • Team meetings every 14 days
  • Regular supervision with an external supervisor
  • Opportunity for competence development
  • Easy transport, only 5 minutes from the S-train with good parking options
  • We tailor the introduction to your experience. If you are new to the field, you get close guidance, sparring and plenty of time to get to know the residents, the professionalism and the workflows.

With us it is natural to ask for help, share professional considerations and support each other in demanding situations. We believe that high professional quality is created through openness, curiosity and a work environment characterized by psychological safety, where one can safely bring both successes and challenges into play and that the best solutions are created in collaboration.

We are looking for a colleague who

  • Is a trained pedagogue
  • Has a positive and curious approach to the target group
  • Is passionate about working with people with psychological and physical disabilities
  • Is tolerant, flexible and can keep an overview
  • Can create security, also in an unpredictable everyday life
  • Is prepared for versatile tasks, including personal care
  • Can participate in resident holidays
  • Has a driver’s license (desirable but not required)

As a social educator you will, among other things

  • Support residents’ well-being, mastery and participation in everyday life
  • Work professionally based on each resident’s resources and needs
  • Contribute to professional reflections, documentation and development of the work
