About the job
Do you want to help create a daily life where children experience security, presence and support for their development?
Nymarkshjemmet has moved into new premises and is expanding from three to seven places. We are therefore developing our offers and strengthening the professional community so that we can together create the best possible framework for the children and youths who live with us.
We are looking for four social pedagogues who want to become part of our community and contribute with professionalism, engagement and presence in a daily life where relationships are crucial.
A strong professional community
We believe that all children need a home where they can feel safe and at home – even when they cannot live with their family for a period.
That is the idea that characterizes everyday life at Nymarkshjemmet and the way we work and lead. We believe in trust, shared responsibility, strong relationships, high professionalism and the importance of a good everyday life.
We make an effort to create a workplace where we help each other, develop together and stay with the children – even when life hurts. We set high demands on our professionalism and on each other, because the children need warm, present and professionally skilled adults who can create calm, take responsibility and stay when the relationship is tested.
At the same time we take responsibility for creating the frameworks, sparring and the culture that makes success possible. Because we believe that children notice when the adults around them thrive, collaborate and create security together.
We create a home
Nymarkshjemmet is first and foremost a home for the children who live here. Therefore our task is much more than providing care and supporting development. We create a home with everything that entails.
A home with security, structure, warmth and recognizability. A home where there are rolls of buns, birthdays are celebrated, bedtime stories are read, holidays are taken, the table is laughed around, and small adventures and traditions are created that give the children the sense of belonging.
For a period we become a meaningful part of the child’s life. We meet that responsibility with warmth, professionalism and humility.
We cannot change the children’s history. But we can help write new chapters. We can give the children experiences of safe relationships, help them manage difficult emotions and support their opportunities for well-being, development and mastery.
Development often happens in the small moments. When a child is met with calm instead of helplessness. When a conflict ends in contact and repair. When we maintain curiosity, even when the child rejects contact. And when a relationship endures – even when it is put to the test.
And fortunately the laughter fills as much as the seriousness. For a home is not created only with professionalism and structure. It is also created with laughter, play, crazy ideas and adults who want to join in.
We borrow parenthood
We do not take over parenthood. We borrow it.
We believe that the child’s family is an important part of the child’s life – now and in the future. Therefore we work persistently to support and strengthen the relationship between the child and its family.
An placement is never an end in itself. Our task is to support the child’s development and, when possible, also the family’s. We look for opportunities for the child and the family to come closer together, and we meet the family’s importance with respect, professionalism and curiosity.
Nymarkshjemmet also has an acute placement. Here our first task is to create calm, care and security when a child’s world has suddenly become unsafe.
Whether the child requires an acute intervention or a longer stay, we meet the child with the same fundamental conviction: All children need adults who want them, believe in them and continue to look for opportunities for development.
Relational competence is our professional foundation
At Nymarkshjemmet relational competence is the foundation of our pedagogical work. We are focused on how we as adults take responsibility for the relationship, meet the child with respect and tailor our approach to each child’s needs and prerequisites.
It requires that we can maintain calm, be clear and curious and try to understand the child’s perspective – even when the behavior challenges us. We must be able to stand by the relationship, repair the contact when something goes wrong, and hold fast to the belief that development is possible.
Relational competence is not only about the individual employee, but also about how we collaborate, communicate and take joint responsibility for the pedagogical practice.
Therefore we prioritize professional sparring, supervision, reflection and competence development. We must dare to question our own practice, share our experiences and learn from each other. In this way we develop our professionalism together and strengthen the quality of the pedagogical work we perform for the children.
We succeed together – and take care of each other
It is a great responsibility to become part of a child’s everyday life when life is at its most fragile. We will come to love the children, and we will also be affected. It is a natural part of the job.
Therefore we work to create a culture where we take good care of each other. When a child needs our calm, overview and presence, we share the responsibility. We help each other, share our perspectives and ensure that no one stands alone in difficult situations.
We believe that high professionalism and a good working environment go hand in hand. Therefore there must be room for both seriousness, humor, professional disagreement and good laughs during the day.
We are not looking for people who can manage everything alone. We are looking for colleagues who take responsibility, are open to sparring and know that good professionalism also means reaching out.
Who are you?
We imagine that you are a trained social educator and want to work with children and young people who need special support, care and stable adults around them.
You will thrive with us if you
- Can create calm, structure and security – even when emotions are running high.
- Take responsibility for the relationship, even when the child finds it difficult to connect.
- Meet children and families with respect, curiosity and professionalism.
- Can accommodate complexity without losing hope for development.
- Can translate professional knowledge into concrete everyday actions.
- See reflection, feedback and professional development as a natural part of the job.
- Contribute to a collegial community with warmth, humor and shared responsibility.
We do not expect you to have all the answers from day one. We expect you to take responsibility for your professionalism, be curious about your own practice and want to develop together with your colleagues.
