About the job

Would you like to help shape education and employment in Denmark's Prisons? Do you want leadership, strong collaborative relationships and the development of initiatives that make a difference for people in Denmark's prisons?

About the position

Denmark's Prisons is seeking a deputy head for the Prevention Unit in the District Office West in Aarhus. You will be part of a professionally strong unit where we work closely together to create good and coherent preventive interventions.

You will have special responsibility for education, employment and study administration and at the same time be an important contributor to the overall development of the prevention area.

As deputy head you will work closely with the office head, the unit's other deputy heads and colleagues across the district.

Your task will be both to ensure stable and qualified operations and to help develop our task handling. You should be able to move between the strategic level and the concrete reality in our prisons and remand centers.

Your primary areas of responsibility

  • Leadership of staff working with education and employment.
  • Professional development and quality assurance in the area.
  • Coordination and prioritization of the unit's tasks in close collaboration with operations.
  • Development and implementation of new initiatives, including initiatives arising from the sentencing reform.
  • Collaboration with prisons and remand centers, the Agency for Denmark's Prisons and Prison District East within the education and employment area.
  • Dialogue and collaboration with external actors within education and employment.
  • In other words, you will not be sitting on the sidelines. You will have the opportunity to influence both daily task execution and the direction we are moving in.

You must like to make things happen!

  • We are looking for you who can both see the big picture and make everyday work function.
  • You have a relevant professional education, for example in social, educational or employment field or a social science background.
  • You have a good organizational and strategic understanding, and can navigate in an organization where many considerations and professions must work together. You can understand complex problems, create an overview and translate them into something usable in practice.

About you

  • Is clear and trustworthy in your communication.
  • Can set direction and drive forward – even when the road isn't straight.
  • Has an eye for both staff, professionalism and the organization's overall task.
  • Thrives with many collaborative relationships and different perspectives.
  • Can switch between strategic development and concrete operational tasks.
  • Is curious about people, and motivated to create good conditions for others.
  • Is quality-conscious and at the same time pragmatic when reality requires it.
  • You do not need to have leadership experience. If you have the right professional and personal prerequisites and want to develop as a leader, we would like to hear from you.
  • The most important is that you want to take responsibility, achieve results together with others and actively contribute to the development of the area.

We offer

The Prevention Unit is one of eight professional offices at the District Office in Prison District West.

We work with a wide range of crime prevention interventions, including social work interventions, education, substance abuse treatment, employment, health services and authority cooperation.

That also means you will become part of an environment with many different professions and perspectives. We use each other's competences and emphasize close collaboration – both internally in the unit and across the District Office.

We believe in freedom with responsibility, mutual flexibility and a work environment where you can develop. We expect you to take responsibility for your tasks and for the community, and in return we make an effort to create frameworks where you can succeed.

There must be room for professional discussions, questions and new ideas. And there should be room for a laugh in a busy everyday life.

Education and employment are important elements in crime prevention. As deputy head you get a real opportunity to influence how we work with the area – both now and in the long term.

If you can see yourself in a role where leadership, professionalism, collaboration and development go hand in hand, we hope you will apply for the position.

We look forward to hearing from you.
