Specialist psychologist/experienced psychologist for the Suicide Prevention Unit

Suicide Prevention Unit currently consists of 7 psychologists, a consulting specialist in psychiatry, a personnel-budget-responsible manager, consulting social workers, and three secretaries.

As an experienced psychologist, we expect you to participate with sparring and coordination in daily operations. This position provides a special opportunity to help set the framework and influence both daily operations and the region's suicide prevention work.

The unit's purpose is to manage the subacute treatment as well as the preventive effort for people who have attempted suicide or have persistent suicidal thoughts and who are not the psychiatric department's target group. The unit covers the entire region and has youths from 15 years and adults in its target group.

The treatment offer consists of short-term therapy or supportive conversations, complemented by psychoeducation in group. The offering includes patients in personal crisis possibly with milder depressive or anxiety symptoms. Patients with more severe psychiatric disorders are treated in the rest of psychiatry. The unit emphasizes involving relatives and professional network members in the course, and support and guidance are offered to relatives and bereaved.

We are currently seeking a special psychologist or a psychologist with broad and relevant experience to handle clinical work as well as to participate in coordinating tasks. The clinical work will consist of individual consultations, where we will, among other things, start from ACT and David Jobes’ CAMS framework but with methodological freedom in treatment. Included also is screening for mental disorders and referral of referred patients to the unit.

You will play an essential role for the unit, and we expect that you

• Bring broad, professional knowledge that can be used in patient pathways as well as for internal conferences etc.
• Can independently handle short-term therapeutic psychology treatments in the unit
• Share responsibility for cross-disciplinary collaboration in psychiatry with regard to operations and safe patient flow
• Share responsibility for framing, supervising, and creating good working conditions for employees’ task execution
• Share responsibility for recruitment, onboarding and retention of staff in the unit as well as ensuring the workplace as an attractive place to work and learn
• Share responsibility for good collaboration and working environment in the unit
• Possibility of daily presence

In addition to the daily operations in the unit, you will be required to handle external tasks, e.g., participating in sparring with the other suicide-prevention clinics in Denmark, participating in various national suicide-prevention councils, etc.

Qualifications

• Special psychologist, specialist or psychologist with clinical practice education or the like. We prefer someone with experience in the adult psychiatric field and/or child-adolescent area.
• Motivated for coordinating and operational tasks in the unit. Good at initiating and continuously supporting short- and long-term plans/directions for the unit.
• Good collaboration skills and good communication abilities
• Ability to motivate and provide professional sparring
• Ability to achieve results based on collaboration and coordination
• Interested in the perspectives of working short-term therapy
• Especially interested in suicide prevention work and has experience with this
• Flexible, with an overview and good collaborative skills in a cross-disciplinary group
• Willing to undertake teaching tasks

About Psychiatry

The Psychiatry in the North Jutland Region is in constant development with a focus on professional specialization and increased outpatient treatment. Furthermore, it is Psychiatry’s vision to ensure high quality in solving psychiatric tasks for the benefit of patients, users and relatives.

Education of students and trainees is one of Psychiatry’s core tasks, which all employees contribute to.

Currently there are areas that, due to the 10-year plan for psychiatry and mental health, including especially the national focus on suicide prevention work, have our particular attention. It concerns the prevention of the spread of knowledge about suicide prevention, cross-sector and cross-institution collaboration, teaching of psychiatric staff to improve suicide prevention within psychiatry as well as further development of psychoeducation in group, where the target group has currently been expanded to other patient groups in Psychiatry.

We work from the patient-centered management organization. On this basis, Psychiatry in the North Jutland Region is organized in these areas:

• General Psychiatric Department, South
• Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Department
• Forensic Psychiatric Department
• General Psychiatric Department, North
• Geriatric Psychiatry Department

General Psychiatric Department, South covers open and intensive bed wards, an emergency psychiatric department with reception and an extensive outpatient function.

Child and Adolescent Psychiatry as well as the Forensic Psychiatric Department both have inpatient wards and outpatient functions. These three departments are all located in Aalborg.

In Brønderslev we have General Psychiatric Department, North as well as Geriatric Psychiatry Department, both with various inpatient wards and outpatient offerings.

Schizophrenia disorders, including OPUS, belong to General Psychiatric Department, South and are based at Brandevej 5 in Aalborg East.

Practical information

• We obtain references for the person we wish to hire. If required for the position, we also obtain a criminal record and a child abuse certificate.
• Salary and employment terms according to the applicable agreement for academics employed in regions, etc., entered into with the relevant AC organizations
• The position is essentially 37 hours per week. Possibility to adjust working hours can be discussed
• Education of students and trainees is one of General Psychiatric Department, Aalborg’s core tasks to which all employees contribute.
