About the job

Would you like to contribute to promoting well-being among students in higher education? Are you a psychologist or social worker with a therapeutic postgraduate education? Can you provide attentive and qualified counseling with therapeutic depth, and would you also contribute to Student Counseling's other advisory and preventive efforts?

So you now have the opportunity to apply for an exciting position as of 1 January 2027 in the Student Counseling department in Jutland. The position is based at our office in Aarhus and is also expected to include a forward-placed function at an educational institution within a distance of max. 100 km from Aarhus. Here you will primarily conduct counseling conversations with students, and to a lesser extent collaborate with e.g. study counselors, teachers and student organizations to promote study motivation.

The role requires that you can work independently and build local collaborative relations. The concrete placement and the distribution of working days between the office and the educational institution are not yet clarified.

Tasks

Your everyday work will mostly consist of counseling conversations with students from higher education. The students you meet have various problems, study life and backgrounds. Almost daily you will meet a new student. It requires curiosity, relational competence and solid professional expertise to carry out counseling work in a way that is helpful for the individual student.

Often the conversations will be of a therapeutic character, but you must also be ready to advise and help further if Student Counseling's offering is not deemed the right fit. We work within a short time frame and the counseling takes place in different formats: primarily individual (in person, online, by phone) and to a lesser extent in groups and in workshops. It is the students' needs and preferences that decide which help they receive.

We have methodological freedom and use various recognized counseling and therapy forms, but all work with Feedback Informed Treatment (FIT).

When you work forward-placed there can, in addition to counseling tasks, also be ad hoc tasks to participate in more overarching wellbeing-promoting collaborations e.g. with study counselors and teachers. Through such collaborations we increase the accessibility of the Student Counseling's offerings, and we gain local knowledge that allows us to offer the students an even greater coherence in the counseling offering, as well as the possibility to participate in co-created preventive initiatives.

All our initiatives must be viewed in relation to Student Counseling's overall goal of contributing to study motivation and reducing unnecessary dropout for all students in higher education ( https://srg.dk/media/o0hl1ef2/strategi.pdf ). We have an overarching focus on generalizing and contextualizing the study-life problems the students seek help for, while also keeping a sharp eye for signs of mental disorders and need for other help or treatment. We pay attention to how we can support students to become skilled graduates in well-being, even if they have disabilities or other particular challenges.

We prioritize applicants who have experience with and competencies within

  • counseling and therapeutic conversations in different formats within a short-term framework
  • assessment of signs of mental disorders and need for other help or treatment.
  • Feedback Informed Treatment
  • independent work and building collaboration relations combined with active participation in a collegiate community
  • consultative work, interdisciplinary collaboration and preventive efforts, preferably in the educational sector

We are looking for a colleague who

  • is curious about own and others' perspectives, dares to challenge assumptions and uses feedback to develop their practice
  • can prioritize and maintain professional overview and presence in a workday with many conversations and frequent meetings with new students
  • works independently and at the same time takes shared responsibility for common tasks, shares knowledge and contributes to colleagues' learning
  • has courage to try new solutions and adjust them along the way in collaboration with students, colleagues and partners.

Department and collegiality

In the Jutland Department you will become part of a community with 13 counselors, including you. Seven are based in Aarhus, some – like you – work both from the head office in Ryesgade and forward at educational institutions in Aarhus or surroundings. Three counselors work forward at educational institutions in Region South (currently Esbjerg, Horsens, Vejle, Kolding and Aabenraa), and three work forward in Aalborg.

At the office in Ryesgade you also have your department head and here you will also share daily life with colleagues from the Student Counseling's Knowledge Center for Inclusive Learning Environments, administrative staff and interns.

We focus on supporting professional and social attachment, well-being and community among both our students and our staff/colleagues. We emphasize that you receive a qualified and tailored introduction to tasks and that we can have an open dialogue about the things that matter to you in solving the tasks and in your working life in Student Counseling. As a new employee you will participate in an intro program and be assigned a mentor.

We offer a department with a developing and safe professional community. The counselors often present what they find difficult, and you will meet colleagues who want to learn from each other, who value methodological diversity, are helpful – and not least funny and nice. We have work with a high degree of meaning, where you daily experience that you can make a difference for students in distress.

We want to support a culture where we see tasks and their solution as a shared concern and where we make an effort to support work that has high emotional demands. We offer internal supervision in groups, both in person and online, about three times a month and external supervision in group about once a month. At least twice a year we dedicate full days to learning and immersion and once a year all from Student Counseling gather for a seminar.

We want a colleague who can see themselves in the above – who is curious and open, and who would like to participate in the community, professionally as well as collegially.
