Support person for an 11-year-old boy

Would you like to create good afternoons with play, small trips and presence? Here you get a 1:1 assignment where you follow the boy's interests and create calm and secure surroundings.

About the task

You will be a regular support for an 11-year-old boy who is especially fond of trains, figures and imaginative play inspired by TV. Together you can play at home or go on short outings, e.g. to the station to look at trains or to the Open Air Museum (Frilandsmuseet).

The boy has muscular dystrophy (Dystrophia Myotonica Type 1) and becomes physically tired quickly. Therefore it is important that activities take place at a calm pace and are adapted to his energy. On outings he often uses a pull cart, and he thrives best in calm surroundings with not too many sensory impressions.

He understands what you say, but has difficulty expressing himself verbally. He is persistent when he wants to convey something, and his communication is supported with Sign to Speech.

Your task is to create structure and predictability in your time together and guide him calmly through activities and transitions. You take the initiative based on his interests and help him find a suitable tempo. Sensory stimulation, e.g., massage, can also be an activity he enjoys.

The assignment also includes diaper changes.

The family lives close to Virum Station with good transport links.

About you

You can be a pedagogue, teacher, student in pedagogy or unskilled with relevant experience from working with children with special needs. The position can also be relevant as a student job.

You thrive in 1:1 work and can take responsibility for creating a good framework for the time together. It is important that you work calmly and structurally, are attentive to the boy's signals and can steer the activities without pressuring.

If you are a trained professional, you will be compensated accordingly.

Working hours

• Weekdays: Monday, Wednesday or Friday, e.g. 3:00 PM–8:00 PM. The family is flexible regarding the time, which is agreed upon further.
• Every other weekend: Typically 10:00/11:00–15:00/16:00.
• Summer house: The family has a summer house in Gilleleje, where some weekend shifts will take place.
