About the job

Do you want to lead a department that helps secure a solid foundation for future social policy? Do you have strong professional expertise, and are you an experienced leader? Then you might be our new head of department.

The position

As Head of Department in Analysis and Welfare Economics and Data you will be part of the top management of the Ministry of Social Affairs with reference to the Secretary of State, where you, with a large margin for leadership, will have the opportunity to act with strategic perspective, achieve results and put your mark on the task solution. Together with the rest of the management in the ministry, it is your task to help set the overarching framework for both policy and operations in the ministerial area.

Analysis and Welfare Economics and Data consists of the Center for Welfare Economics and Data as well as the offices of Governance, Supervision and Business and Analysis. In the position it is important that you can ensure interaction between the offices and ensure up-to-date, efficient and secure operations while at the same time applying the latest knowledge to policy development in the Ministry of Social Affairs area.

It is a significant task in the department to ensure the ministry’s strategic development of the governance, economics and analysis areas and to support the minister and the government in their political ambitions. Another focus area will continue to be to ensure and promote the ministry area’s desire for a more data- and analytics-driven approach to policy development and implementation.

You will have overall responsibility for the department with about 40 employees, and you will be line manager for the three office heads in the department.

About you

We expect that you have a relevant higher education. You have a strong professional profile and solid leadership experience, preferably from the central administration. You can translate your professional insight into a political context and can create and maintain strong collaborative relationships, just as you possess a pronounced understanding of working in a politically governed organization.

We emphasize that you have

  • Documented experience in working with political decision-making processes at the top level.
  • Leadership experience and well-developed leadership competencies, including the ability to inspire to rethink and to set goals and direction and to communicate clearly about it.
  • Impact and an approach characterized by receptiveness as well as integrity and personal commitment.
  • Judgment and decision-making power, so you can safely steer processes and prioritize tasks in a busy everyday life.
  • Experience with the department’s areas of work.

You have strategic vision and a desire to work with your leadership in and for a team of dedicated managers and actively contribute to their development. We want a head of department with great commitment, who is able to create a good working environment as well as lead, inspire and develop the department and the engaged staff who are passionate about their work.
