About the job

More rain. Rising groundwater. Ambitious urban development.

Future water management requires new solutions and close interaction between planning, environment, engineering and development.

Therefore we are looking for three strong profiles who will help develop and implement solutions within wastewater planning, climate adaptation, terrain-adjacent groundwater and water management in the municipality's towns and local communities.

Help set the direction

Climate change, rising groundwater and continued development of cities and communities impose new requirements on the municipality's water management. Therefore we are now strengthening the effort in this area.

As one of our three new employees you will have the opportunity to influence how Sønderborg Municipality works with wastewater, climate adaptation, terrain-adjacent groundwater and water management in the coming years. You will be part of developing new solutions, strategies and priorities that translate political goals and professional knowledge into concrete results.

You will work closely with colleagues, SONFOR, consultants, citizens and businesses, and you will have a central role in creating coherence between planning, regulatory work and project development.

In Sønderborg Municipality we work based on the values of dialogue, recognition, collaboration and commitment. Therefore we expect you to actively contribute to cross-disciplinary and cross-interest collaboration and help create solutions that support the municipality's development in both the short and long term.

Your tasks

You will become part of a department with eight employees, where tasks are distributed based on the department's competencies, the organization's needs and your professional strengths.

We wish to assemble a department with different professional profiles. Therefore the tasks are adapted to the competencies and interests that the new employees bring with them

Depending on your profile you can among other things work with

Wastewater planning

  • Preparation and revision of wastewater plans and addenda.
  • Consultation processes and stakeholder dialogue.
  • Coordination with SONFOR and the municipality's other areas of expertise.
  • Preparation of political case presentations.

Terrain-adjacent groundwater

  • Construction, planning and implementation of the municipality's efforts to handle terrain-adjacent groundwater.
  • Analysis and quality assurance of data basis for prioritizing the municipality's future actions.
  • Identify investigation and intervention needs and contribute to the development of strategies, planning and decision basis.
  • Contribute to the preparation of plans and addenda and the subsequent political processing.
  • Ensure close coordination and collaboration with SONFOR on development and implementation of new initiatives and solutions.
  • Engage in dialogue with citizens, advisors and other stakeholders about handling of terrain-adjacent groundwater.

Water management, climate and urban development

  • Contribute to the preparation of water management and disposal plans in connection with local planning, urban development and larger projects.
  • Contribute to the development of solutions for handling rainfall, drainage and wastewater in interaction with climate adaptation and terrain-adjacent groundwater.
  • Assess and balance considerations for drainage, recipients, groundwater conditions, climate adaptation, nature and environment in physical planning.
  • Help create solutions that support the municipality's goals for urban and business development while ensuring water is managed robustly and sustainably.
  • Participate in cross-cutting development and climate protection projects across the municipality.

Water environment, environmental assessments and permits

  • Case handling of discharges to recipients.
  • Connection permits and industrial wastewater.
  • Environmental approvals within the wastewater and surface water area.
  • Contribute to environmental assessments and project assessments.

Common to the positions is that you contribute to the development of the area through professional analyses, planning, regulatory work and decision basis to management and politicians. Therefore it is important that you can translate complex problems into concrete and actionable solutions.

We imagine that you

Have a relevant advanced natural science or technical education, e.g. engineer, geologist, biologist, environmental technologist or similar. Other educational backgrounds may also be relevant if you have documented experience with similar tasks.

We particularly emphasize that you

  • can analyze complex technical and environmental professional problems
  • can translate professional knowledge and legislation into decision basis and realizable solutions
  • can create progress and take responsibility for your own tasks
  • collaborate constructively across disciplines and interests
  • communicate clearly both verbally and in writing
  • have an eye for balancing professional considerations, different interests and the municipality's long-term goals.

Who are you?

You thrive on taking responsibility and achieving results with others. You work structurally and analytically and manage to translate complex problems into concrete solutions.

You can drive your own processes from idea to finished result and create progress through dialogue with colleagues, citizens, businesses and advisors. You are good at identifying risks, handling challenges along the way and creating clarity about opportunities, consequences and next steps.

At the same time you are curious, collaborative and motivated by creating value through solutions that support the municipality's development.

Why choose us

With us you become part of a professionally strong environment with a high degree of knowledge sharing, sparring and helpfulness. We have a free and informal tone, great trust in each other and a common ambition to create good solutions for the municipality.

You will have the opportunity to work with issues ranging from strategy and planning to concrete regulatory decisions and development projects.

In short, you have the opportunity to help shape the solutions that will ensure robust and sustainable water management for both present and future generations.
