About the job

Do you want to work in a smaller section that works with Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) preparedness, nuclear strategy and deterrence?

The Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear section is seeking two case officers.

About us

The Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear section is located in the Operations Staff in the Defence Command under the Vice Chief. The section is responsible for military-strategic advice on nuclear deterrence and CBRN defence of the Kingdom of Denmark. The section is also an integrated part of the Operations Staff's command capacity – Joint Headquarters and the associated Battle Rhythm.

Your daily work is characterized by the fact that we are a smaller section that works closely together on the tasks. Often there is a need for several case officers to cover an area so that we can cover for each other. We place great emphasis on job satisfaction and retention and take individual needs into account when planning the work.

About position 1

You will come to work with both CBRN preparedness and nuclear deterrence. Your day-to-day will include case handling in an international context where, in particular, cooperation on nuclear deterrence, the expansion of an international network, participation in staff discussions and exercises, and support for the continued development of the national headquarters (JHQ) will be in focus.

You will become the case officer for the nuclear cooperation in NATO in close coordination with the Danish military representation at NATO. The position also involves close contact with the Ministry of Defence. You will furthermore need to support the operationalization of the strategic cooperation with France.

A position with us gives you the opportunity to immerse yourself in strategic issues and prepare decision briefs and subsequently translate them into the operational reality.

The tasks include among others

  • Monitor decisions and developments in NATO in the nuclear area.
  • Translate Danish positions and policy into actions.
  • Participate in seminars and staff and crisis exercises in the nuclear area.
  • Coordinate internally within the Defence Command with areas relevant to nuclear deterrence.
  • Support case processing and staff work regarding CBRN preparedness.

There is some possibility to work from home, but since a large part of the work takes place on highly classified systems, you should expect a large amount of time on site at the office.

You should also expect that travel may occur of shorter duration, typically in connection with meetings, international network-building and conferences. We try, however, to the greatest extent possible to take your private circumstances into account when planning the section's work.

About position 2

Your day-to-day will include case handling in an international context where particular cooperation on nuclear deterrence, the expansion of an international network, participation in staff discussions and exercises, and support for the continued development of the national headquarters (JHQ) will be in focus.

You will be given a special assignment related to the development of the strategic cooperation with France. In addition you will support the section's other case officers, with coordination with civil authorities and the implementation of NATO requirements for CBRN preparedness.

A position with us gives you the opportunity to immerse yourself in strategic questions and prepare decision briefs and subsequently translate them into the operational reality.

The tasks include among others

  • Translate Danish policy for the strategic cooperation with France into operational decisions.
  • Participate in seminars and staff and crisis exercises on CBRN preparedness and the nuclear area.
  • Follow decisions and developments in NATO in the nuclear area.

About you

We imagine that you are a university graduate with a master's degree focusing on security policy and preferably military affairs. We would like you to have experience from the Armed Forces or other relevant places. We expect that you will be hired as a special consultant.

We do not expect that you have prior knowledge of deterrence, nuclear affairs or CBRN preparedness before you start in the position. You should primarily be curious about the field and have the desire to quickly acquire new knowledge. It is important that you are proactive and independently ensure that you stay informed about your area.

At the same time, we place great emphasis on you contributing to the professional and social community in the team and naturally involving your colleagues in your work.

We also would like you to

  • Have strong analytical abilities and can identify practical solutions in complex problems.
  • Communicate clearly and precisely, both verbally and in writing, and can prepare decision briefs for the Defence's top leadership.
  • Have a structured approach and deliver high quality on time.
  • Build good collaborative relationships internally in the Defence Command and with our partners across the ministry area.
  • Have experience with planning or execution of air operations, but this is not a requirement to hold the position.

You will have the opportunity to build a strong network and gain insight into the strategic and operational level in the Defence and the Ministry of Defence group. At the same time you will have a unique starting point for further development of your competencies within staff work at both operational and military strategic levels.
