About the job

Do you want to develop the library together with children and their adults – and create strong relationships through a present and outreach-focused hospitality?

At Ballerup Libraries we believe that the best offerings are created together with those who use them. Therefore we work with user insight, relationships, hospitality and co-creation as the basis for the development of our libraries and cultural centers.

We are looking for two family-librarians who are passionate about meeting people and who see hospitality as more than good service. For us, hospitality means actively making contact, inviting to participate, building relationships and making the library a place where children and their adults feel welcome, seen and engaged.

Common for both positions is that you will develop activities, events, exhibitions and communities where children and adults experience, learn and create together both in our buildings and around the local community. You will also help strengthen the family perspective across the library’s offerings, activities and physical spaces so the library is experienced as a relevant, inviting and present place for the whole family – with something relevant for both big and small.

We want to strengthen our work with user insight and co-creation. Therefore we are looking for colleagues who are curious about children and families’ interests, needs and everyday life, and who can translate that knowledge into relevant offerings and strong communities.

At the same time, we want to strengthen the library’s work across target groups children and adults, which is why one position will be rooted in the work community Children and their adults and the other in Work Community Adults. So each will have their own angle on offerings and activities and can also contribute with a new perspective on existing events.

Two profiles – one common ambition

You will mainly work with

  • Informative and outreach hospitality in an average of 3 shifts per week and a Friday-Saturday shift every 4 weeks
  • User insights and involvement of parents and other adults around the children
  • Development of family-friendly activities, communities and cultural offerings where children and adults participate together, both at the libraries and in the local community
  • To strengthen the family perspective across the library’s offerings, activities and settings
  • Partnerships with local communities, associations and cultural actors
  • The library as a meeting place for community, culture and learning
  • To create frameworks where children and adults experience themselves as active participants and co-creators
  • Focus on collaboration, development and retention of the library’s many volunteers.

You will also

  • Be visible and present in citizens’ everyday life, e.g. in housing areas and at local events
  • Work with relational hospitality, where dialogue, curiosity and involvement are a natural part of meeting citizens
  • Translate insights from meetings with children and families into development of new offerings and sustainable communities
  • Develop and test outreach interpretation and activity concepts that bring the library closer to families’ everyday life, e.g. in housing areas, at local meeting places and at city events
  • Work across professional areas, libraries and cultural houses.

Special for the position anchored in Children and their adults

  • Focus on development and execution of school programs.

We are looking for someone who

  • Is proactive, dialogue-creating and relationship-building
  • Is curious about children and families’ needs, interests and everyday life
  • Has experience with user involvement, co-creation and community-building work
  • Can translate knowledge and relationships into concrete activities, events and offerings
  • Thrives being visible in the library space and takes initiative to contact both new and familiar users
  • Wants to collaborate with citizens, colleagues and local actors
  • Can work both strategically and practically
  • Is proactive, decisive and good at turning ideas into action.

We would prefer that you are educated as a librarian or have other relevant experience, e.g. from a modern public library.

We offer

  • Two exciting positions with a great opportunity to influence the development of the libraries’ offerings to children and families
  • A workplace with high professionalism and strong ambitions for libraries as cultural and community-building institutions
  • Engaged colleagues who are passionate about culture, dissemination, relationships and communities
  • Great influence on tasks and solutions
  • A daily life with development tasks, dissemination, hospitality and citizen contact
  • A working environment focused on collaboration, trust and psychological safety
  • Opportunity to work closely with children, families, cultural actors and local communities
  • Evening and weekend work as a natural part of the positions.
