Would you like to be our new librarian and help operate and develop the library's offerings for children in Tårnby? Employment from 1 December 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter

Can you enjoy being with children, and can you convey presence at eye level? We are seeking two experienced librarians/cultural mediators for our children's library and can offer:

• a permanent 32-hour position focused on library outreach to children aged 0-6
• a maternity cover 32 hours focused on library outreach to children in school age

Children's Librarian for the 0-6 age group: In the permanent position you will have the opportunity to develop and implement activities for children, especially aged 0-6 years. You will become part of a duo working with outreach to day-care institution children, and who collaborates with pedagogues, pedagogical consultants and other partners across the municipality.

Together with a colleague you will be responsible for thematic read-aloud events for day-care institution children, where we use props, dialogic reading and play to unfold a chosen picture book for the children. Therefore we would like you to have experience with early literacy/language development and dialogic reading, and not least be willing to put yourself into the outreach to the children, including the very youngest babies in day care (vuggestuebørn). We work with the strengthened pedagogical curriculum as the library's events should align with the day-care institutions' everyday life.

You will also be part of an event group that develops and hosts activities for older children and their families. If you have a creative streak, that's a plus, as we host many creative workshops for children that we ourselves facilitate. You must also help create inspiring exhibitions in the children's library, which can encourage more children and adults to take a children's book home.

Maternity cover: The maternity cover is 6 months with the possibility of extension. In this position you will work with activities for school pupils from 0th to 7th grade. We have fixed offerings for the municipality's 1st, 3rd and 5th grades, but each year we host a number of activities for the other year groups as well.

We therefore would like you to have experience working with school pupils and be able to run a class program. “Bogboksen” (The Book Box), which is a reading program for 5th grades, occupies a significant part of this position, both in terms of execution and planning. About working in the children's library in Tårnby: We are a total of 8 staff members who manage the children's libraries at Tårnby Main Library and at the Vestamager Library branch, both in terms of maintaining the book collection, mediating books and hosting events and activities for children and families. This means that although the two positions are different, you in the permanent position will also hold library orientations and other school-related events and activities for school pupils. These are tasks we share in the children's library.

We have an annual timetable with many fixed activities for day-care children, school pupils and for children and families who visit the library in their free time. The annual timetable provides good opportunities to put your own mark on which activities should be offered, but you should also be prepared to host activities that others have prepared.

We prioritize being present in the library space: In daily work there are many shifts in the library space at the main library and at the branch. Here you will service both children and adults with everything from finding a good book to helping with MitID.

The library is always open with service, and daytime shifts run between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. You will also have a fixed evening shift per week until 6 p.m. or 8 p.m. Weekend shifts are allocated so that you have one evening shift every 7th Friday, Saturday shift every 6th Saturday and Sunday shift every 12th Sunday in connection with the Saturday shift. This applies to both positions.

Salary and employment terms Employment is according to the applicable collective agreement with the Danish Association of Masters and PhD researchers after negotiation.

The municipality's recruitment policy entails that references are requested from previous and current workplaces upon appointment. In addition, upon appointment, a criminal record certificate must be presented and a child certificate may be requested.

The employment will be conditional on these being satisfactory.
