About the job

Experienced nursing home manager for the well-run Skovhuset Nursing Home in Hillerød Municipality

We are seeking a new nursing home manager who, with vision as a guiding principle, will lead the operation and development of Skovhuset in collaboration with our capable area managers and staff. At Skovhuset we are dedicated to our vision “in an engaging and open house, together we create the meaningful everyday life, where family life continues, supported by engaged and skilled staff.”

About Skovhuset

Skovhuset is a modern and well-run nursing home in scenic surroundings close to Gribskov and the life of the town in Hillerød East. Skovhuset is the largest nursing home in Hillerød Municipality, housing 104 residents and employing about 170 staff, of which about 8 nurses, 53 SSH and 29 SSA. In addition, there is an attached day center, both a mobile day center and Bakkehuset, that are used by about 80 homebound citizens.

Skovhuset Nursing Home is a large educational site for the SOSU educations and nursing students. We do our best every day to prepare our students well so they thrive and excel in a safe learning environment. You can hear Jean and Mohammed tell about being nursing students at Skovhuset in this video

We are skilled at leadership at Skovhuset and therefore succeed with a flat leadership structure with a nursing home manager and two area managers – and many skilled employees who take responsibility and make decisions.

Skovhuset is a unique focal point for the social and cultural life in Hillerød East. We value our collaboration with Grønnevang Church, Østnetværket, Kirkecare, the farm singer and local kindergartens.

Your responsibilities and tasks

As nursing home manager you will have the overall managerial responsibility to lead Skovhuset. But you are not alone for together we achieve best results.

We have an understanding that we as leaders should not fix things behind a desk but in dialogue, and with involvement and trust let our competent and engaged employees solve the tasks. At Skovhuset we believe that what we do now is the right thing!

On this, the management at Skovhuset says: ” We have trust that everyone does their best. What you do now is the right thing to do, and there is always an opportunity for professional sparring afterwards without hesitation. At Skovhuset we do not need to exercise control, because we know everyone does their best .”

Concrete leadership tasks will be to

  • Lead the daily operations and ensure that the professional development, which we are well underway with, continues
  • Direct personnel responsibility for area managers and administrative functions including finances as well as a development team.
  • Be responsible for the overall financial management and budget follow-up, so the finances remain in balance.
  • Take the lead in close collaboration between management, staff, residents, families, volunteers, civil society and partners.
  • Support an inspiring and motivating work environment, with a focus on ongoing development and implementation of professional competencies and workflows.
  • Join the department Older and Health strategic leadership group together with managers from Hillerød Municipality's five other nursing homes, Home Care and Nursing and Training Section, Health Promotion and Education as well as Visitation and Aids. You will also join a network with the five other nursing home managers. See the organizational diagram for Older and Health via this link: Organising for Older and Health

Prioritized tasks for the first 6 months

The most important for us is that you as the new leader take time to settle in the house and be curious about the culture and what residents and staff need. You should prioritise integrating into the leadership community with the area managers and the collaboration with the staff and the well-functioning local MED committee.

In addition you should work on

  • Continue to strengthen the psychosocial working environment and job satisfaction in collaboration with the local MED committee.
  • Focus on developing the collaboration with relatives and families.
  • Continue implementing new initiatives and visions together with the staff, including the new elder reform’s ideas about liberation and self-determination.
  • Have created a good and clear collaboration with the 2 area managers and the administrative staff.

Our expectations of you and your leadership style

To succeed in the position it is important that you have solid leadership experience, preferably from the elderly sector at a municipal workplace – it could be from a nursing home, 24-hour care facility or home care. You have a healthcare professional background, preferably a nurse; and you are experienced in financial management and good at resource thinking.

You are used to leading leaders, so they succeed as best as possible. You do this by ensuring a large leadership space for the area managers based on trust and loyalty.

In addition we want a nursing home manager who

  • Is listening, but at the same time able to make decisions and set direction when required.
  • Is present, tangible and clear.
  • Has an appreciative, dialogue-based and trust-building conduct.
  • Is forward-looking and can ensure timely development of operations.
  • Can lead from the front and stand at the back!
  • Is visible and approachable in everyday life.
  • Has a coaching leadership style.
  • Is honest, tolerant and inclusive.
  • Can manage leadership at eye level.

We offer you …

In addition to a large leadership space with meaningful tasks, you can expect

  • An exciting and inclusive workplace with qualified, engaged and flexible staff who are self-driving, because the culture is built on a great deal of trust and loyalty.
  • A broad and good collaboration between residents, relatives, volunteers and staff.
  • A leadership team that is used to being close to the staff and actively involved in complex processes and in planning operations and development.
  • Good development opportunities.
  • A strong will and ability to accommodate and help when needed.
  • Close professional leadership sparring both from the manager and leadership colleagues across Older and Health.

We meet about every 14 days in the strategic leadership group, where we believe that good relationships and a good shared understanding of operations in Older and Health make us a strong leadership team. In addition to the leadership community, the strategy “The Way Forward in Older and Health” binds us together and sets a clear direction for the organization.

As a leader in Hillerød Municipality you become part of a value-based organization, where the values TITO – Trust, Interest, Time and Care - are the cornerstone of how we are together and lead.
