About the job

Would you like to contribute to strengthening health and well-being among children and adolescents?

Do you want to make a difference for schoolchildren and youths? Are you motivated by following children and young people's health and development, creating good relationships, and translating your health-professional knowledge into preventive efforts?

We are seeking a public health nurse who is passionate about the school sector, enjoys an independent daily life, and wants to participate in a close interdisciplinary collaboration. You will become part of a school team where the core task is to promote health and well-being among children and youngsters – and where there is also the opportunity to contribute to the development of new initiatives.

School health nursing with the child and the young person at the center

As a school health nurse, you will work with health conversations, screenings, and health-pedagogical activities across grade levels. You must be able to meet children and young people with different prerequisites and needs and create a safe framework where there is room for their perspectives and questions.

The task requires that you can make health-related assessments, identify signs of health or well-being challenges, and assess when there is a need for additional support or cross-disciplinary intervention. You should be able to communicate your professional knowledge in a way that makes sense to children and young people, and involve parents and relevant partners when necessary.

The school sector requires you to work independently, create an overview, and prioritize your time. At the same time, relational skills, professional curiosity, and the ability to bridge the child, the family, the school, and other professionals are central to succeeding in the task.

Professional development

We are focused on developing our health-promoting and preventive work based on experiences from practice, health profiles, and societal trends. We want to be curious about new possibilities and adapt our initiatives to the needs we meet among children and youths.

In Children and Youth Health, the school health service works closely with the efforts to prevent nicotine use as well as smoking and nicotine cessation. There are also politically allocated funds to test health conversations and health-promoting initiatives at upper secondary education. This gives us the opportunity to examine how best to support youths in an important life phase.

We will also start a politically approved competence development in the sleep area, where we will strengthen our knowledge and translate it into relevant practice. In addition, over the past five years we have used the metacognitive approach in work with mental health.

You do not need to have experience in all areas. We emphasize that you are willing to contribute to development and see the opportunities in working with health promotion and prevention across target groups and professional areas.

Public Health Nursing – a professional community

Public Health Nursing is part of Children and Youth Health under the Social and Health department. We are organized into two toddler teams and a school team.

You will become part of the school team with five dedicated colleagues and at the same time part of a broader professional community across public health nursing. We prioritize professional sparring, joint development, and knowledge sharing through, among other things, team meetings, professional days, collegial supervision, and systematic professional visits to one another.

We cooperate closely with, among others, PPR (Educational Psychological Counseling), the Family Department, SSP, day care, and schools. We believe we are most successful with our core task when we bring different professional perspectives into play and build bridges between the efforts that children and families encounter.

With us you will receive a thorough introduction with a mentoring program, good opportunities for professional development and influence on your tasks. We prioritize a work environment characterized by psychological safety, openness, humor, and respect for each other's differences.

We imagine that you …

  • are a trained public health nurse with a solid health-professional foundation.
  • meet children, youths, and families with an appreciative, curious, and inclusive approach.
  • have an interest in health promotion and prevention and can translate professional knowledge into practice.
  • thrive with both independent tasks and close collaboration with colleagues and cross-disciplinary partners.
  • can plan and prioritize your tasks while also flexibly contributing to the joint task solving.
  • want to develop your own professional skills and contribute to new initiatives across the children and youth sector.
  • wish to be an active part of a collegial community where we help each other and take shared responsibility for the tasks.

The most important is that you want to make a difference for children and youths, and that you can see yourself in both the core task of school health nursing and the continued development of our preventive work.

Practical information
