About the job

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is seeking two regional security advisors based in Islamabad and Kyiv respectively, where you will become the regional focal point in the Ministry's global security work.

As a regional security advisor you will be a central actor in strengthening the security of representations and staff. We work purposefully to ensure the best possible protection of the ministry's employees, assets and information – a task you will play a central role in supporting.

You will work closely with the representation’s deputy heads, and your primary task will be to contribute to strengthening security at the representations by advising on the threat landscape in general across the domains of physical, personal, and information security, and contribute to the ongoing operation of the security technical solutions. You will assist with the preparation of guidelines for employees and handling of concrete issues and security incidents.

As a regional security advisor you will be capable of providing concrete and security technically grounded advisory support both concerning the security aspects of the representations’ daily operations and in acute and intensified crisis situations. With attention to the local threat landscape you will be able to find usable solutions where a high and security-minded standard can be adapted and implemented in the concrete context that applies in the region.

Area of work

As a regional security advisor you will function as representations’ nearest sparring partner and actor in the security area. Your primary tasks will be:

  • Follow the development of the threat picture in the region, among other things through close dialogue with relevant authorities and security advisors from other countries and organizations
  • Build and maintain networks with security contacts in the region
  • Advise and assist with identifying and implementing relevant security measures
  • Assist with the preparation and maintenance of risk and vulnerability assessments
  • Assist with the preparation and maintenance of local security instructions and emergency procedures
  • Maintain a high level of security awareness among staff, including briefings, continuing education and exercises
  • Assist with optimizing the representations’ duty rotas
  • Cooperate and share knowledge with colleagues in the Security and Property Office with a view to further developing the foreign service's security work.

Who are you?

As a person you work independently, in a structured and persistent manner and naturally take responsibility for driving tasks forward. You are a confident and nuanced communicator and articulate clearly and professionally in both Danish and English – both orally and in writing. You meet others with trust and professionalism and have a strong ability to build and maintain good collaborative relations across organizations, cultures and professional backgrounds.

This applies to cooperation with colleagues in the foreign and domestic service, other embassies in the region and external partners within your area of responsibility. You have a high sense of responsibility and are motivated by creating solutions that build on existing knowledge and experience while strengthening the framework for the representations’ and staff’s work.

You have an eye for both the concrete task and the larger organizational context and actively contribute to developing robust and well-functioning workflows. Even when the situation tightens, you keep calm, judgment and overview. You can quickly prioritize and make well-considered decisions and are ready to take control when the situation requires it. At the same time you can advise the representations’ staff clearly, constructively and with the necessary authority.

Concrete emphasis on the following

  • Have experience with security work, e.g. from other authorities, international organizations or a private company, including installation, maintenance and repair of various types of security systems.
  • Have experience translating and communicating general rules and standards into a concrete context and to colleagues without prior security knowledge.
  • Are good at building and maintaining collaborative relationships across professional, jurisdictional and country borders.
  • Have some experience from previous postings, e.g. from the security sector, but also preferably from the Defense, police or other authorities.
  • Can work independently, are analytically strong and ready to take on varied tasks, including less routine operational tasks related to security technology solutions.
  • Have good oral and written communication skills in both Danish and English.

Organizational placement

You will be organizationally anchored in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Security- & Property Office (SIKBYG) but posted to the Danish embassy in either Islamabad or Kyiv. In Islamabad your closest colleagues will be the deputy heads of the representations in the region, while in Kyiv it will be another regional security advisor.

Expectations of you

As a person you can build good cooperative relationships with staff, local security personnel, the national security authorities and the international security professional environment in the region.

You possess a professionally relevant background and have experience with security work in a civilian context, preferably from a large international organization or from a company. It would be advantageous if you have a basic understanding of the region's cultural, historical and religious conditions, e.g. gained through postings or frequent travels in the region.

Language skills

We are looking for staff with strong language skills in both Danish and English, ideally corresponding to C2 level in Danish and C1 level in English in accordance with The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages . After the recruitment interviews, selected candidates will be asked to complete an English language test as part of the recruitment process.

Salary and terms of employment

You will be offered a fixed-term appointment for three years for the Islamabad position. The Kyiv position is for two years with the possibility of extension. You will be paid at the senior consultant level. The position is a full-time post.

During the posting you will receive a tax-free foreign service allowance, determined based on the cost of living at the post in relation to Denmark and your family circumstances. The foreign allowance is regularly adjusted and can be up or down depending on the above parameters. A service apartment is provided in accordance with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ rules. In addition, expenses for relocation travel, moving, medical treatment, etc. are covered in accordance with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ current rules. These terms can change during the posting, which you should be aware of.

It is a prerequisite for receiving the foreign service allowance that you are tax liable in Denmark at the time of posting and throughout the entire posting. In most cases you are not if you already reside in the posting country at the time of posting. If this is the case, you are advised to clarify tax and residence-related questions with the relevant Danish authorities in advance.

Particularly in Islamabad there is a high travel requirement associated with the job.

Due to security conditions in the countries, special conditions apply regarding whether family can accompany on the post. For Islamabad, the partner and children under 3 years (up to 36 months for the entire posting) can accompany on the post. For Kyiv, it is not possible to bring family on the post. Under the foreign service allowance there will be financial compensation for separation from partner and/or children under 21 years, and there is an option for 3 annual paid visits to them.

As the final part of the recruitment process for the Kyiv security advisor, the selected candidate will be screened by an external psychologist to determine whether the candidate has the necessary psychological resilience to hold the post.

Starting date

Islamabad: May 1, 2027, and Kyiv: August 1, 2027.
