Work injury

What does it mean?

A work injury (arbejdsskade) is an injury or disease caused by an accident at work or by exposure to harmful conditions in the course of employment. Examples include falls, cuts, repetitive strain injuries and occupational diseases from chemicals or noise.

Report the injury to your employer immediately and seek medical attention. The employer must report serious injuries to the Danish Working Environment Authority. Compensation may come through the employer's insurance (arbejdsskadeforsikring) and the Labour Market Insurance (Arbejdsmarkedets Erhvervssikring).

You may be entitled to continued pay during recovery and compensation for permanent injury or loss of earning capacity. Deadlines apply for reporting and claiming — act promptly.

Prevention is key: follow safety procedures, use protective equipment and participate in workplace safety training.
