CVR number
What does it mean?
The CVR number (Centrale Virksomhedsregister) is an 8-digit identifier assigned to every registered business in Denmark. It appears on invoices, contracts and the public CVR register at virk.dk.
Before accepting a job or freelance contract, verify the employer's CVR entry: legal name, address, status (active/dissolved), industry and often financial reports for larger companies.
Freelancers and sole proprietors also have CVR numbers when registered for business. Employees do not need their own CVR unless self-employed.
The CVR register is free and helps avoid fraud, ghost companies and wage theft. Cross-check company name and CVR on your contract and payslip.
