Volunteer work
What does it mean?
Volunteer work (frivilligt arbejde) is unpaid contribution to non-profit organisations, sports clubs, cultural institutions or community projects. It develops skills, expands networks and strengthens your CV between jobs or alongside studies.
If you receive unemployment benefits, volunteer work is generally allowed if it does not replace paid work and you remain available for the labour market. Excessive hours or roles resembling employment may affect benefits — consult your a-kasse.
Describe volunteer experience professionally on your CV: organisation, role, responsibilities and achievements. It demonstrates initiative and values.
Distinguish volunteering from unpaid internships or illegal unpaid trial work — the latter may violate employment law. Genuine volunteering is freely chosen without employment obligation.

Two-week rule
