Salary insurance
What does it mean?
Salary insurance (lønsikring) is optional private insurance sold by a-kasser and insurers, topping up unemployment benefits toward a higher percentage of previous salary for a limited period after unemployment.
Terms vary: qualifying period while employed, premium cost, maximum payout duration and cap as fraction of prior salary. Read policy carefully before signing.
Useful for high earners where dagpenge maximum rate leaves a large income gap. Not substitute for building emergency savings and sensible spending.
Compare offers from your a-kasse and market. Ensure you meet employment and membership conditions continuously before claiming.
