Notice period

What does it mean?

Notice period (opsigelsesvarsel) is the advance warning required before employment ends. For salaried employees, Funktionærloven sets minimum notice from employer by seniority: 1–6 months; employee notice typically 1–3 months depending on seniority.

Collective agreements and contracts may differ — check which applies. During notice, employment continues with pay unless released early by agreement (frigivelse).

Employer may place employee on garden leave (have) during notice — still employed with pay but no work duty. Holiday may be taken during notice by agreement.

Calculate last day carefully for pension, benefits and new job start. Document termination date in writing.
