About the job

As our new employee at CLO you will be a key person in planning and carrying out educational and research tasks. You will have a unique opportunity to translate complex knowledge into practice – from teaching cadets at the Army Officers School to producing articles, reports and dissemination in a strong professional environment.

About us

Center for Land Military Operations (CLO) is part of the Institute for Military Operations at the Defence Academy. The centre consists of five elements, all located at Frederiksberg Palace.

  • The Tactical element of the military diplomacy education conducts the tactics education at the subunit level.
  • The Command Training element conducts the training at battalion and brigade level.
  • The Operations and Command Training element conducts the training at division, corps and land component level.
  • The Research and Development element contributes to doctrine development and knowledge of military theory at the tactical level
  • The Reserve element conducts the teaching of the Army’s reserve officers at the subunit level and up.

The vacant position is placed in the Research and Development element (FOU).

The work in the centre is characterised by an interplay between dissemination (teaching students), development (doctrine development) and professional retention (support to the Army’s operative units). We focus on the military profession, where the ultimate challenge is the command and leadership of land military units in combat.

Our core task is to develop and implement doctrines, concepts and methods that strengthen the Army’s conceptual combat power to plan and conduct all types of land military operations in today’s and future combat environments.

We currently have ten employees in FOU, with a good mix of civilian and military staff.

Our work includes

  • Participation in NATO’s land military fora and writing groups.
  • Drafting of national doctrine at the battalion level.
  • Deepening in doctrine, war theory and experiences from among other things the war in Ukraine.
  • Preparation of written products and learning material for CLO’s and FAK’s educations.
  • Support to CLOs and FAKs’ education with teaching.
  • Participation in national and international working groups and seminars related to the tactical level.
  • Coordination of CLO’s annual seminar.
  • Dissemination of knowledge through presentations to Army authorities and the Defence in general.
  • Preparation of the podcast “Operative Considerations”.

About the position

As our new employee you will personally perform or assist CLO with teaching and development tasks.

You will together with a study adjunct plan, implement and evaluate CLO’s share in the study and competence development module for the upcoming cadets at the Army’s Officers School and contribute to CLO’s as well as the Institute for Military Operations’ other educations including Master in Military Studies.

You will thus have the opportunity to take part in the concrete production of officers in the Army as well as produce articles, reports, plan seminars and similar – and thereby gain insight into and experience with how development within the land military domain is produced, published and disseminated.

A substantial part of your tasks in addition to teaching will be research tasks aimed at preparing background material and subsequently disseminating it, including administration of CLO’s MS Office SharePoint.

About you

You have an academic background. It will be especially relevant if you recently completed a social science or humanities education, just as it will be advantageous if you have an interest in Danish and international relations regarding land military operations, war history and war theory, as well as other matters related to the land military profession.

Since you will join CLO development work, it is important that you are thorough, capable of working independently, and that you have an interest in development work and the development craft.

Employment terms

The employment takes place in accordance with the current agreement between the Ministry of Finance and a number of academic organizations for academics in the state (Academic Agreement).

Depending on your qualifications and competencies, there is an opportunity for negotiation of a supplement. There is an employer-financed pension scheme attached to the position.

The workplace is at Frederiksberg Palace.

As an employee within the Ministry of Defence’s area you are subject to some special terms. You must, among other things, be able to obtain security clearance and maintain the security clearance throughout the employment.

You as an employee have a duty to perform service outside the country, including with units in international operations with the aim of participating in conflict prevention, peacekeeping, peacemaking, humanitarian and other similar operations.

In the Defence Ministry’s organization we believe that diversity optimizes task solving. Therefore we encourage all interested regardless of background to apply for the position.

Defence Academy

At the Defence Academy we educate the future leaders in the Defence, so they become some of the best in NATO. Our educations are anchored in the military profession within the Army, Navy and Air Force and the elements that cross the three services. The educations range from the basic officers’ education in one of the three services or as a language officer, to further education courses and standalone courses for Defence employees, to a Master in Military Studies.

All advanced educations are based on research within our three core areas; military operations, military strategy and military leadership, handled by the Academy’s five institutes. In addition to delivering research-based teaching, our military knowledge is also widely used in and outside the Defence for the benefit of society, our allies and other partners.

The Academy has a large network of collaboration partners at both Danish and foreign research and educational institutions, and contributes to the development of NATO doctrines and research projects. Read more about the Defence Academy at: www.fak.dk
