About the job

We have a position available and are seeking a specialist in surgery with a particular interest in colorectal surgery.

The applicant will belong to our lower surgical team. The team handles elective diagnostics and treatment of patients with benign and malignant colorectal disorders. The applicant will participate in on-call with presence and through this function have close cooperation with the Emergency Team, and the patient pathways managed there. Finally, surgeons from the lower and upper teams collaborate closely regarding the admitted patients.

The colorectal team has a highly specialized function for advanced pelvic surgery (primary as well as recurrent), CRS surgery, advanced fistulas, sphincter reconstruction, and anal cancer. Routine co-operations with other surgical specialties are performed, just as there is close collaboration with the Cancer Diseases Department, Herlev and Gentofte Hospital for the investigation, treatment and evaluation of patients with anal cancer.

The colorectal team consists of 9 senior physicians and one specialist. Day surgery with uncomplicated primary proctological procedures is performed both at the Herlev and Gentofte sites, while more advanced surgical procedures are performed only at the Herlev site, including robot-assisted surgery. Herlev Hospital has for many years had a well-established robot center and robot surgery is routinely used by the colorectal team for selected elective patients.

There are several clinical lectureships and often more doctors attached to research positions. You will work in close collaboration with the other 10 surgeons within colorectal surgery regarding the investigation and treatment of the overall patient group.

The department has access to 8.5 beds/week (3 robots and 5.5 others) for lower patients and 2 beds/week for proctological problems. The colorectal team’s doctors support the acute operation shifts as needed. The operating shifts are distributed among the team’s specialists, aiming for an even distribution with respect to outpatient diagnostics, surgery, on-call duties, and ward rounds.

The applicant will join as one of the department’s other specialists in on-call coverage. The department has a large number of training doctors and the applicant will be required to participate in supervision and education of these, as well as ensuring operations in the outpatient clinic, ward rounds, and on the operating shifts at one of Region H’s largest surgical departments. In addition to surgical qualifications, emphasis will be placed on qualifications within team leadership, teaching, communication and collaborative skills within the team, across specialties and departments.

The Department of Stomach, Intestines and Liver Diseases has about 350 staff, of whom 90 are doctors. The department is organized into 5 teams: Emergency Surgery, Upper Surgery, Colorectal Surgery, Medical Gastroenterology and Endoscopy. The department covers an intake area of 425,000 inhabitants and has 3 wards with a total of 71 beds, distributed across a surgical, an acute surgical and a gastro-medical ward.

The department has 4 professors and significant research activity, including long-term effects after cancer surgery, acute surgery, advanced endoscopy, colorectal surgery, hepatology, palliation for gastro-medical patients, chronic inflammatory bowel diseases and surgical pathophysiology. We collaborate nationally and internationally.

We offer
