Become an intern and gain knowledge about volunteering, communities and social work?

Are you eager to gain experience in developing and coordinating social initiatives? And would you like to help create meaningful communities for people in vulnerable positions? Then perhaps you are the intern we are looking for for WeShelter's social meal clubs!

At WeShelter we work to combat homelessness, loneliness and mental distress. We do this, among other things, through our volunteer-driven social meal clubs, where volunteers and participants meet to cook, have good conversations and build a positive community.

We are seeking a curious and engaged intern for our meal club team from February to June 2027 , who wants to gain insight into the work of a development consultant in a social NGO.

What will you be working on?

As an intern you will be part of the daily operations and development of our social meal clubs. You will work closely with the team’s development consultants and will have the opportunity to tackle independent tasks as well as participate in larger projects.

Your tasks may include

• Recruitment of volunteers, including contact and interviews with potential volunteers
• Starting up new meal clubs, where you will, for example, help coordinate with partners, recruit volunteers and develop materials
• Planning and coordinating events, such as activities and events for our volunteers
• Development and support of volunteer efforts across WeShelter
• Practical and administrative tasks that are a natural part of working with social initiatives

Because we work with people, our daily life is not always predictable. New tasks and needs arise continuously, and you will therefore also have the opportunity to join where you are needed.

We are also open to adapting parts of the internship to your interests and skills.

Who are you?

We imagine that you are currently pursuing a relevant higher education, e.g. in social sciences, sociology, psychology or similar. But we are open to different educational backgrounds.

The most important for us is that you

• Are curious about people and interested in social work, civil society and volunteering
• Want to take responsibility and try your hand at different tasks
• Enjoy collaborating with others, but also thrive with independent tasks
• Are comfortable with a daily life where you are in contact with people and solve tasks at a desk

You will become part of a dedicated team where there is room for questions, sparring and new ideas. You will gain insight into how we collaborate with volunteers, social services and other partners to create communities for people in vulnerable positions.

Practical information

• Internship period: February to June 2027
• Working hours: About 30 hours per week with flexibility regarding study and possibly a study job
• Salary: The internship is unpaid

Who is WeShelter?

WeShelter is part of the Mission among the Homeless, which since 1893 has carried out social work, with a desire to combat homelessness, loneliness and mental distress.

At WeShelter we help people in need both at the hostel Kollegiet Gl. Køge Landevej and at the Youth Hostel Sporsløjfen on Østerbro, as well as at a number of social-psychiatric day services in Copenhagen. In addition we have a range of volunteer initiatives.
