About the job

Would you like to work with samples that have significance for patients' further diagnostics, and do you thrive in a daily routine where systematic work, quality and a good work pace are important?

It is important for us to ensure continuous high-quality sample processing. Therefore we are looking for a bioanalyst or laboratory assistant who, through engagement and overview, will ensure that our samples for bacteriological diagnostics are plated and incubated for further diagnosis.

So perhaps you are the one we are seeking.

About the department

The Microbiology Department at Herlev Hospital performs microbiological diagnostics and guidance in bacteriology, virology, serology, parasitology and mycology for Herlev, Gentofte and North Zealand Hospital as well as for the primary health service in the catchment area in the Capital Region of Denmark.

With about 160 staff and an annual sample volume of almost one million, the department is one of the largest clinical microbiology departments in Denmark.

About the position

We are seeking staff for one permanent position and two one-year fixed-term contracts, all 37 hours per week. The positions are to be filled on December 1, 2026 or by agreement.

The positions are shift-work and involve work in day and evening shifts as well as weekends and holidays. Variable working hours are therefore a fixed part of the positions.

We are looking for a committed and proactive employee for pre-analyses, who will play an important role in the daily handling and preparation of patient samples. You will become part of a team consisting of laboratory assistants and bioanalysts, where you together with your colleagues help ensure that samples are handled correctly and plated in a timely manner.

You will have a practical and operation-oriented role on the laboratory floor, where you will, among other things, perform plating of patient samples as well as maintenance and preparation of equipment such as LAF benches and incubators. In close collaboration with the pre-analytical team, the bioanalyst specialist and the coordinating bioanalyst you contribute to ensuring that daily workflows operate efficiently and with high quality.

You will also be responsible for ensuring a good collaboration between sample reception and plating and contributing to a smooth flow from the moment the sample is received until it is ready for further microbiological analysis.

Your tasks will include

  • Manual and automated plating of patient samples, including swabs, respiratory samples, urine samples as well as tissues and fluids from operative procedures.
  • Operation, monitoring and fault handling of automated plating equipment.
  • Production, preparation and handling of reagents and substrates for the laboratory's analyses.
  • Co-responsibility to ensure maintenance of instruments and to ensure stable operation in pre-analysis.
  • Active participation in onboarding, implementation and validation of new equipment and new workflows.
  • Co-responsibility for the laboratory's equipment within one's own work area.
  • Co-responsibility for training and introduction of colleagues to new procedures and equipment.
  • Communication of technical knowledge and procedures to colleagues.
  • Collaboration with specialists, coordinated bioanalyst, technicians and suppliers.
  • Contribute to the department's accreditation work in accordance with ISO 15189 within own tasks.

We offer

  • An important role in pre-analyses with hands-on work in handling microbiological samples.
  • Opportunity to actively influence the implementation of new workflows related to plating of patient samples.
  • Impact in a busy but inspiring professional and development-oriented cross-disciplinary collaboration with many other professional groups.
  • A department in development where initiative, engagement, quality-focused mindset, and accountability are valued.
  • Thorough onboarding and the opportunity to become well familiar with the tasks.
  • A workplace that values a good working environment, which is expressed through mutual trust and respect, good and pleasant communication and a professional handling of the job.
  • A workplace where competence development, in relation to professional and personal development, is anchored in the department's culture and development.
  • A modern workplace where we use the latest technological equipment in the laboratories, which supports high-quality analysis results and helps create a good working environment.

We expect that you

  • Have a relevant laboratory-science education or relevant practical experience in handling human samples for microbiological diagnostics.
  • Are quality-conscious and have a practical flair for laboratory work, including handling and use of pipettes, plating techniques, sample numbering, work in LAF benches, and understanding and adherence to hygienic guidelines in a microbiological laboratory.
  • Have technical flair and interest in working with equipment.
  • Speak, read and write Danish and English fluently.
  • Can convey technical knowledge and procedures clearly and practically – both orally and in writing.
  • Work in a structured way, be proactive and take responsibility.
  • Thrive in a workplace with change and complex tasks.
  • Contribute positively to collaboration and are able to listen, as well as communicate openly and in a welcoming manner.
  • Support and continuously contribute to accreditation work according to ISO 15189.

The position is organizationally placed in the Department of Clinical Microbiology at Herlev Hospital, reporting to a senior bioanalyst.
