Bistrup Church seeks a sexton

A position as a sexton at Bistrup Church, Helsingør Diocese, is available for recruitment as of 1 January 2027.

Bistrup Church is a self-built church from 1967. There is a tradition of good church attendance and a rich musical life. Many of the church's activities are carried out with the support of volunteers and with significant local backing.

We are looking for a mature, approachable and flexible person, preferably with practical experience from a similar position. We expect our sextons to independently and responsibly participate in the collaboration with the church’s pastors, other staff and volunteers. We expect the person employed to be familiar with and interested in the life and tasks of the Church of Denmark.

This is a full-time position with 2 days off per week, but the working hours can vary. Evening and weekend work will occur. We place a high value on good collaboration skills. As a sexton you will work closely with your colleagues, and will need to plan working hours and tasks in cooperation. There is mutual coverage/relief among our sextons for days off, holidays and illness.

Salary and employment terms

The appointment is covered by the Central Collective Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and Public Employees’ Organizations (OAO-S) and the organizational agreement for church functionaries with core duties as sexton or gravedigger concluded between the Ministry of Ecclesiastical Affairs and the Danish Sexton Association. The agreement can be viewed at www.folkekirkenspersonale.dk . The probation period is 3 months.

Current civil servant sextons have the right to retain their civil servant status upon appointment by direct transition. In that case, the position must be classified.

The annual salary is agreed within the range DKK 324,667-408,841. The parish council's proposed salary would be DKK 345,711 annually.

An agreement on placement in the salary interval is made between the parish council and the Danish Sexton Association

In addition, there is an on-call allowance of 1,401 kr. annually. All amounts are stated as of 01.10.2026.

There is an on-call obligation attached to the position. The on-call allowance amounts to DKK 33,230.62 per year.

If you do not already have the training, you must complete the mandatory 5-week training for sextons within 2 years after the start of employment.

In connection with the appointment, we will obtain a child safeguarding certificate, and the parish council notes that references may also be obtained.
