Do you have an overview, independence, good collaboration skills and an interest in church work? Then you may be the new church caretaker at Sortebrødre Church.

We have just completed an extensive modernization and expansion of the parish house, Sortebrødrehus, which now houses a completely new kitchen, a newly renovated hall/education room, as well as up-to-date and bright office facilities. The new facilities give us good opportunities to think anew, and in future we want to place great emphasis on involving volunteers in various ways in the church's life and events.

Therefore we are now looking for another church caretaker to join a caretaking team together with our current caretaker.

As our new church caretaker you will have an important role in making everyday life, services and special events run smoothly in close cooperation with colleagues and the congregation. If the above has sparked your interest, please read on:

Sortebrødre Church is seeking a church caretaker for a full-time position starting January 1, 2027.

The church caretaker will work in close collaboration with other church staff: the second church caretaker, 2 priests, 1 lay reader, 1 organist, 1 church and culture employee, 2 church singers and the church choir. The two caretakers shall form an equal team, where you cooperate on the tasks.

As a church caretaker at Sortebrødre Church your main tasks

· to participate in the preparation and conduct of services and religious ceremonies

· to participate in the preparation and conduct of the church's other events – concerts, meetings, lectures, confirmation activities etc.

· to take care of refreshments for high school afternoons, church coffee, meetings etc.

· cleaning and tidying of the parish house Sortebrødrehus and Sortebrødre Church as well as supervision of the cleaning company involved in cleaning the church

· supervision of and light cleaning of the areas around the church (there is employed help for care and snow removal of the areas)

· cooperation with the church's volunteers and craftsmen

· shopping for everyday goods

· setting up and moving tables and chairs etc.

· other tasks depending on your competences

The position includes varying working hours, which also include evenings, holidays and every other weekend. The caretaking team agrees the distribution of tasks among themselves and covers each other during holidays and special vacation days.

In connection with the above we expect that you

· have relevant professional experience and education – preferably education as a church caretaker

· have experience with cleaning work and practical sense

· are familiar with cooking and in this connection can cooperate with different target groups in our new kitchen

· can cooperate with volunteer groups that are, and that may arise in the house

· is used to using IT as a natural work tool, so you can correspond with colleagues and partners by email and electronic calendar system

· are responsible, have initiative and are good at independently planning and carrying out your work

· are approachable and have good sense of situation

· are good at collaborating with other staff and the church council, guests and partners

· are flexible and willing to work at changing times, including weekends

· have a sense of order and a view to making the church and its surroundings appear welcoming

· are interested in church work

Employment takes place with Søndre Sogn's Parish Council located Sortebrødre Kirkestræde 2, 8800 Viborg

Employment is covered by the General Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and Public Employees' Organization (OAO-S) and the Organizational Agreement for church functionaries with core tasks as church caretaker or grave digger entered into between the Ministry of Ecclesiastical Affairs and the Danish Church Caretaker Association and the corresponding protocol for church caretakers. The agreements can be seen on the Church of Denmark's Intranet.

Current civil servant church caretakers have the right to retain their civil servant status upon employment with direct transition. In that case, the position must be classified.

It is a condition that the mandatory 5-week training for church caretakers is completed within 2 years after the start of employment.

The annual salary is agreed within the range of 324,667 kr – 408,841 kr (current kroner).

There is a readiness allowance for the position. The readiness allowance amounts to 33,231 kr per year (current kroner).

Okay allowance of 1,401 kr per year (current kroner). An agreement on placement in the salary range is made between the parish council and the Danish Church Caretaker Association.

There is a three-month probation period and if you are employed, you must be willing that we after agreement with you obtain a criminal record check as well as references.
