Job Description

We are seeking a chief physician who, together with our chief nurse, will lead the continued development of a modern day unit in child and adolescent psychiatry, where professionalism is highly valued.

You will in close cooperation with our chief nurse undertake the various leadership tasks, including planning of good patient pathways, personnel responsibility and leadership, financial responsibility, and the continued focus on ensuring operations and the development of the department.

You will play a central role in translating national ambitions into concrete improvements for patients and staff.

Together with the chief nurse you should, among other things, contribute to

• maintaining and further developing our attractive working environment to ensure we can continue to retain and recruit skilled and experienced staff
• optimizing capacity utilization through efficient workflows, high professional quality and appropriate use of the department's total resources
• further develop collaboration with municipalities, general practice, somatic departments and other partners so that children, young people and families experience coordinated and coherent pathways across sectors
• actively contribute to realizing the intentions of the Health Reform through strengthened integration between psychiatry and somatics and by developing new forms of cooperation across organizational and professional boundaries
• based on the 10-year plan for psychiatry be a driving force in the development of future child and adolescent psychiatry, where increased capacity, high quality, innovation, research, competence development and attractive work communities go hand in hand for the benefit of patients, relatives and staff.

You are ambitious and want to help lead and develop a new ward and wish to contribute to the development of the overall Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

• are a specialist in child and adolescent psychiatry
• have the abilities and desire for staff leadership and undertake the overall management task together with the chief nurse
• have experience with leadership and development
• actively contribute to ensuring a high professional standard in evaluation and treatment for children and young people
• are willing and able to steer workflows and work planning in a multidisciplinary team with a focus on inclusion
• can create buy-in and engagement around changes and development
• are clear in your communication, structured and have a good overview
• possess good collaboration skills at all levels.

About the ward

The Day Unit for School-aged Children and Youth in Viborg is an evaluation and treatment service within BUA, Region Central Denmark. The day unit aims to assess and treat school-aged children and adolescents aged 7-17 with psychiatric disorders at main functioning level. A course in the day unit typically lasts two to six weeks. During this period, patients attend on weekdays during daytime from 8:00 to 20:00.

We are approximately 25 multidisciplinary staff members, and together we focus on ensuring patients and their families a cohesive pathway where high professionalism is present throughout. We also have a strong focus on personnel leadership and a good working environment, where working hours and tasks consistently relate. We want a workplace where both recruitment and retention of good experienced staff are valued highly.

As chief physician you will become part of BUA’s leadership team of about 25 leaders, focusing on how we, as a unified management group, can operate and develop BUA for the benefit of the patients. Including how we harmonize our evaluation and treatment services.

Salary and Employment Terms

Salary and employment conditions in accordance with applicable collective agreement. Employment is conditioned on a satisfactory child safeguarding and criminal background check and a satisfactory authorization.

About the Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Department (BUA)

BUA is a department at Aarhus University Hospital with units in Skejby, Viborg and Gødstrup. We conduct multidisciplinary evaluation and treatment of children and adolescents from 0-18 (21) years with mental illness and developmental disorders. In evaluation and treatment we also involve the patient’s family, network, possibly other hospital departments and municipalities in the region.

BUA consists of 4 inpatient units and 8 clinical units distributed in Skejby, Viborg and Gødstrup, as well as a research unit and a medical secretarial unit in Skejby. The majority of treatment is conducted on an outpatient basis. BUA covers four main areas: Early Childhood, School-aged Children, Adolescents, and Eating Disorders. The staff includes doctors, nurses, psychologists, educators, social workers, and several others.

The department received 2025 5,212 external referrals and had contact with about 9,500 unique CPR numbers. The department had in 2025 a net budget of DKK 330 million and as of 1/12-2025 571 full-time equivalents distributed over 634 employees.

The position is generally a full-time position.
