About the job

Would you like to put your health-care professional skills to use in an organization with an important societal mission? We offer an exciting job with challenges in dynamic environments and good opportunities for professional and personal development. You will become part of a strong team with tasks both nationally and internationally.

About us

The Defence Health Service Army Element is located at Aalborg Barracks and supports the Army with health-care personnel, both permanent staff and reservists. We are currently 8 permanent employees and about 80 in the reserve, but both parts should grow significantly in the coming years. There is therefore an opportunity for professional sparring and influence on responsibilities and tasks in the years ahead.

The entire medical support area in the Army is growing significantly, new equipment and field hospitals are being purchased and built. Our task is to advise both individual medical units and the Army as a whole within medical and health services. This includes education, procedures, staffing and operational effect. Specifically, our task is to translate evidence-based medicine and the “best medical practice” into a military framework, as well as recruit, retain and train a professional active health-care reserve for the Army.

We work very closely with all medical units on the garrison and with the garrison’s management and development department.

About the position

As Chief Nurse at the Health Service Army Element, your task is twofold. One part is an operational position and you will be embedded in a field hospital as part of the leadership. Your role will be Chief Nurse and responsible for resource allocation between the elements when they are deployed. This is done in close coordination between the head of the field hospital and the senior physician.

The other part is as the overall person responsible for our entire reserve. Here you will support recruitment in collaboration with the Reserve Office in Brabrand. Once employed, your task will be to staff, develop competencies, and appoint health-care personnel to the medical units. This, of course, is done in collaboration with the rest of the element.

You will maintain contact with the Army’s health-care reserve personnel through newsletters, events, etc.

You will handle the daily tasks in close cooperation with the head of the element and in coordination with the leadership of the Medical Company. The results of your work will be realized in practice, and you will help assess the impact when you participate in exercises.

You will participate, on an equal footing with the other health-care staff in the section, in a number of joint health-care tasks. You will participate in exercises nationally and internationally. Deployment in international operations is part of the job.

The position is non-shift, but as Chief Nurse you should expect to participate in exercises. Overall, this is a diverse and professionally challenging leadership position with varied day-to-day content.

About you

You are licensed as a nurse and have a nursing specialty training in anesthesia, intensive care, or solid professional experience as an operating-room nurse. You have strong Danish and English language skills, both written and spoken, and are familiar with IT.

You must be able to meet the Defence’s health requirements for participation in international operations and should expect to be deployed.

We would like you to have knowledge of the military medical field and you may have experience as a military nurse with deployments in international operations.

You preferably have experience with remote personnel leadership and are passionate about developing others and creating a good and engaged reserve.

You place high value on collaboration, communication and engagement, and you thrive in a diverse workday with varying tasks.

Previous completion of basic training with the Defence Health Service/Defence Medical Command is desirable but not required, as the training can be completed after hire.

Employment conditions

The employment is governed by the applicable Collective Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Association of Teachers and CO10 – The Central Organization of 2010 (LC/CO10 Collective Agreement) as well as the Nurses’ Association in the state and the agreement on a new pay system for civil servants and civil servant-like nurses in the state.

The base salary is DKK 44,774.34 per month. Depending on your qualifications and competencies, there is a possibility of negotiating a qualification allowance. There is an employer-financed pension scheme of 18.40% of base salary plus allowances.

The workplace is at Aalborg Barracks in Nørresundby.

As an employee under the Ministry of Defence, you are subject to certain special conditions. You must, among other things, be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance during the entire employment.

As an employee you are obligated to perform service outside the country’s borders, including with units in international operations for participation in conflict-prevention, peacekeeping, peace-support, humanitarian and other similar operations.

Special considerations

Please note that there are physical and functional health requirements for the position, and that the position requires you to be able to be deployed on international missions. This means that the appointment is conditional on passing a test at the Personnel Command Selection. The test consists of a physical test, a health assessment and a mental resilience assessment.

The date for the assessment will be announced after interviews and must be conducted and clarified before we initiate salary negotiations and employment. You can read about the physical requirements at forsvar.dk
