About the job
Do you want to help strengthen specialized palliative care and shape the field's development in West Jutland?
Are you interested in palliative medicine, and would you use your medical expertise to make a difference for people with life-threatening illness? Are you motivated by complex clinical problems, interdisciplinary collaboration and the opportunity to influence the development of specialized palliative care?
Then we would like to hear from you.
We are seeking an engaged physician who will help ensure high professional quality in treatment and further develop the palliative effort in close collaboration with colleagues and partners across hospital and the primary care sector.
A specialty with the human being at the center
In the Unit for Palliative Care we work with people with life-threatening disease and complex palliative problems. Our core task is to prevent and relieve suffering and create the best possible quality of life for the patients and their relatives.
It requires a holistic approach, where physical symptoms, psychological reactions, social conditions and existential questions are integrated into the treatment. It also requires high medical professionalism, interdisciplinary sparring and the ability to find solutions in situations where there are not always simple answers.
We focus on the individual person and on creating good, coherent patient pathways. We do this by bringing our different professional backgrounds into play and taking joint responsibility for the quality of care.
Your role and your tasks
The Unit for Palliative Care is part of the Cancer Department at Regionshospitalet Gødstrup and is responsible for the specialized palliative care in the hospital's catchment area in the western part of Region Midtjylland.
We have around 100 patients attached to the unit. Patients receive treatment at home, on an outpatient basis or during hospitalization.
As a chief physician or consultant you will become part of a specialized professional environment with a broad range of duties. You will have clinical tasks and the opportunity to contribute to the development of palliative care.
Your tasks include, among others
- Clinical treatment: Evaluation, treatment and relief of complex symptoms and issues in people with life-threatening disease.
- Rounds and treatment responsibility: Treatment of patients in the unit's inpatient ward, which currently has six beds, as well as medical tasks at Anker Fjord Hospice in Hvide Sande.
- Interdisciplinary collaboration: Close cooperation with nurses, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, hospital chaplain, secretaries and pharmacist to provide holistic patient pathways.
- Guidance and teaching: Contribute to strengthening the basic palliative care through guidance, teaching and competence development across the hospital and in collaboration with municipalities and other partners.
- Professional development: Contribute to developing the quality and organization of the specialized palliative care locally and regionally.
At Anker Fjord Hospice, the doctors carry the treatment responsibility and currently perform rounds four times a week.
Opportunity to influence development
We want to strengthen the specialized palliative care and make our knowledge and competences available to more patients in need of specialized palliative care.
This includes, among other things, closer collaboration with the hospital's other departments and with municipal and regional partners. We want to contribute to patients with complex palliative needs receiving the right help at the right time – regardless of where in the health system they are.
You will therefore have the opportunity to contribute to the development of our advisory and teaching function and to how we best support the palliative care across sectors.
We would like you to bring your experiences, ideas and professional perspectives into play. We are committed to developing the area together and creating solutions that both strengthen the professional quality and make a concrete difference for patients.
A multidisciplinary community with high professionalism
Specialized palliative care is built on collaboration. We depend on each other's expertise and that we together can view the patient's situation from several perspectives.
We emphasize dialogue, professional reflection and knowledge sharing. We want a colleague who actively contributes to the community, collaborates constructively and wishes to develop both their own and the shared professionalism.
The unit is organizationally anchored in the Cancer Department, but palliative care is an independent specialty with its own specialized tasks and competencies.
Who are we looking for?
We are seeking a physician who wants to work with palliative medicine and contribute to both clinical care and the continued development of the specialty.
We expect that you
- Are a specialist in a clinical specialty.
- Have demonstrated interest in or clinical experience with palliative medicine.
- Have good collaboration and communication skills and thrive in an interdisciplinary environment.
- Want to share your knowledge and contribute to teaching and professional development.
- Are interested in developing palliative care across hospital and the primary sector.
It is an advantage if you have experience with development work, teaching or cross-sector collaboration.
Approval as a specialist in palliative medicine is desirable but not required. If you have not yet obtained the approval, there is an opportunity to work towards it during employment under the applicable terms.
We are open to different clinical backgrounds. The most important thing is that you have a solid medical foundation, an interest in the palliative specialty and a desire to join a professional community where we together take responsibility for the patients and the development of the field.
What do we offer?
We offer a position where you have the opportunity to combine clinical work with professional depth, interdisciplinary collaboration and development.
You will get
- A meaningful medical role focused on relief and quality of life.
- Opportunities to work with complex clinical problems in a specialized field.
- An interdisciplinary colleague community with different professional backgrounds and perspectives.
- Opportunities for further education in palliative medicine.
- Opportunities to influence the development of specialized palliative care and strengthen collaboration across the health system.
After an appropriate period of seniority there is also the possibility to voluntarily join the palliative standby service that covers the entire Region Midtjylland. There is an FAS-approved on-call agreement.
Terms of employment
You will be employed in the Cancer Department at Regionshospitalet Gødstrup, reporting to the department's chief physician.
Salary and terms follow the applicable collective agreement.
Employment is conditional on satisfactory authorization and a child safeguarding certificate.
When employed as a chief physician, the usual requirements for seniority as a specialist apply, including generally at least five years of employment as a specialist, unless dispensation is obtained under applicable rules.
