About the job

Be part of shaping the future of healthcare close to the citizen

The healthcare system is undergoing change. More citizens must be treated and followed closely at home, and the need for cohesive pathways across hospital, municipality and general medical services is growing.

At the Department of Citizen-Close Health at Regionshospitalet Gødstrup, we are, as of 1 March 2027, looking for dedicated chief physicians/specialists who want to help develop and strengthen citizen-close health services in the Central Denmark Region. As a chief physician/specialist in the department, you will play a central role in developing new citizen-close health services where high professional quality goes hand in hand with innovation, flexibility and holistic thinking.

About the Department of Citizen-Close Health

The Department of Citizen-Close Health at Regionshospitalet Gødstrup is being established as part of the Health Reform, where the citizen is placed at the center. We collaborate with municipalities, general practice and the hospital’s other departments so that citizens in need of treatment and care experience more proximity, security and cohesion in their pathways closer to their daily life. They demand fewer touchpoints, better coordination and easier access to the right help.

The Department of Citizen-Close Health builds on existing professional strengths and experiences so that citizens with complex disease courses receive the right treatment at the right time and in the right place. We work among other things with:

  • Health and care places as well as the Acute Nursing in the hospital’s six cooperating municipalities – Herning, Holstebro, Ikast-Brande, Lemvig, Ringkøbing-Skjern and Struer.
  • Cross-sector patient pathways
  • Prevention of unnecessary admissions and readmissions
  • Specialized guidance and support of municipal health services
  • Collaboration with general practice and emergency functions
  • Development of new treatment and collaboration forms close to the citizen

The department is under establishment and development and shall be characterized by a strong interdisciplinary environment. Doctors, nurses, therapists, quality staff and administrative staff must work together to create cohesive and value-creating patient pathways, and we are seeking employees who are ready to go the extra mile.

About the position

As a chief physician/specialist you will be a key person in the department’s clinical and professional development.

You will participate in the medical effort and advice on health and care facilities as well as in other citizen-close functions and actively contribute to the development of collaboration between hospital, municipality and general practice.

The position is shift-free, but participation in daytime clinical work on weekends should be expected.

Your main tasks will be to

  • Carry out medical assessments, treatment and follow-up of patients with complex disease courses
  • Contribute to triage and coordination of patient pathways across sectors
  • Support early detection and treatment of acute illness in vulnerable patients
  • Provide professional sparring for nurses and other partners
  • Participate in the development of new citizen-close services and work forms
  • Contribute to quality development, research and implementation of best practice
  • Teach and supervise health care staff and medical trainees

We are looking for a chief physician/specialist who

  • Is a specialist in a relevant field, for example general medicine, emergency medicine or an internal medicine specialty, including geriatrics.
  • Has broad clinical experience and thrives with complex patient pathways
  • Has interest in or experience with cross-sector collaboration
  • Can work independently while also building strong relationships across professions and organizations
  • Sees opportunities in development and innovation of future health services
  • Has good communication skills and can build trust with patients, relatives and partners
  • Is interested in teaching, quality development and organizational development

Experience from municipal health services, general practice or citizen-close functions is an advantage, but not a prerequisite.

We offer

  • A central role in a department with great strategic importance for the Health Area of West Jutland
  • A high degree of professional independence and influence
  • A strong interdisciplinary environment characterized by engagement, collaboration and development
  • Good opportunities for professional development, research and quality work
  • Possibility for academic functions and collaboration with the hospital’s other specialties
  • Flexible possibilities for part-time positions with other hospital specialties
  • Committed colleagues and partners who share the ambition to create more cohesive patient pathways
