About the job

Can you turn a picture book into an experience that children can step into? Do you love being with children and helping them and their adults find the next good book? And are you eager to create storytelling universes, exhibitions and creative workshops?

Then we have the job for you at Hillerød Libraries. As of January 1, we are looking for a present and creative children's culture communicator who will open the world of literature for children through storytelling, play, sensory experiences and meaningful encounters in everyday life. You will have room to develop ideas and responsibility to bring them to life together with colleagues with different professional backgrounds.

About the position

You will have a diverse everyday life with three equally important areas of work: 1) outreach to small children, 2) service and hosting in the children's library, and 3) visual communication with a focus on aesthetics and creativity in the physical space. The tasks are closely connected. You will have a daily life where the everyday work in the children's library has its place, and where a visit with a kindergarten group can inspire an exhibition, and a storytelling universe can become a starting point for both workshops and conversations about books.

Small children and day care

You will become part of the professional circle Small Children and Day Care , where you together develop the library's offerings and the collaboration with day care and the children's adults.

We develop fixed visit offers that the municipality's day care can book for children aged 2-6 years. Based on good professional and children's literature, the visits should strengthen the children's language and reading joy through play, dialogue and sensory experiences. Themes such as nature and emotions connect the visits to the pedagogical work of the day cares.

You participate in developing and implementing the visits, which can take place indoors and outdoors as well as around the municipality's local and town communities. Together with your colleagues you adapt the activities so that children with different prerequisites can participate.

Serving and hosting

You are a visible and proactive host in the children's library. You welcome children, families and day care, help them find books and provide inspiration for reading and experiences. You have an eye for both the child who themselves tells what they are looking for, and the family that needs an invitation to get started.

Together with your colleagues you ensure that the children's library functions in everyday life and appears inviting and inspiring. Daily contact with children and adults also gives you knowledge and ideas that you bring into work with activities and exhibitions.

Aesthetics and creativity

You will also become part of the professional circle Interior design and exhibitions , where you collaborate with colleagues to make the library's spaces come alive, inviting and easy to use. Among other things you will have the responsibility for developing and operating the library's storytelling houses, where we present children's literature in imaginative ways, and which are changed a few times a year. Here, stories must become rooms, materials and details that tempt children to explore. You are involved from idea and planning to practical execution and ongoing maintenance.

In addition, you develop and host creative workshops and contribute to the library's other exhibitions and interiors. The library's creative workshops vary between facilitated workshops and DIY.

About you

You love being with children and can establish contact, arouse curiosity and follow their lead. You are focused on what literature and creative experiences can open up, and you have practical ability to translate your ideas into something children can see, touch and participate in.

You have a relevant education and experience with communicating to children. Your background can be library science, pedagogy, cultural subjects or creativity. The important thing is that you can connect good child-oriented communication with aesthetic sense and practical know-how.

In addition, we attach importance to that you

  • have experience with small children and understanding of their language development, attention and different participation possibilities
  • are interested in children's literature and can translate the stories and pictures in books into engaging communication
  • have a sense for materials, colors and spaces and can create solutions that both awaken imagination and function in a busy children's library
  • can plan and carry out creative workshops where children have room to explore, create and put their mark
  • thrive in a hosting role and meet children and their adults with presence, curiosity and helpfulness
  • work independently, keep track of your appointments and can prioritize between working hours and tasks
  • share ideas, welcome professional sparring and contribute with engagement and good humor to the common work.

About Hillerød Libraries
