At Aalborg Libraries we are looking for a colleague who knows something about literature, wants to share their enthusiasm with others, and will help develop the way we as a library work with books, reading and literary dissemination.

We are looking for you who both have a strong literary professional background and a desire to challenge the notion of what literary professionalism is. For us, literature dissemination is not about telling citizens what they should read, or what is “good” literature. It is about creating connections between literature and the lives people lead.

Our view of literature rests on four fundamental beliefs

• We believe that literature opens worlds - both within yourself and outward to others. It creates insight, perspective and identity.
• We believe that literature is relational - it connects people, experiences, perspectives and opens up for communities.
• We believe that literature is diverse - there is not one single way to read, and good literature is many things, because we meet it in different ways.
• We believe that literature belongs to the citizens - it starts from their life, curiosity and needs.

You will help set the direction

You will not be hired merely to continue a particular way of working with literature. You will help develop it.

Together with your colleagues you will translate our view of literature into concrete library practice. It can be in personal conversations with citizens during your shifts, in our physical and digital dissemination, through events and reading communities, or by experimenting with completely new ways to bring people and literature together.

You can convey literature in a living and accessible way without making it banal, and you are interested in the full breadth of literature rather than only certain genres or notions of literary quality.

Your educational background is at least bachelor level within the literary field. For example, you may be a librarian, have studied literary science, be a Danish language teacher or similar.

What do you get with us?

At Aalborg Libraries you will become part of a strong professional community with around 30 colleagues in the Adult and Reading Culture area. You will have great freedom to develop ideas, test new initiatives and help shape our work with literature and reading culture. At the same time you will have a varied everyday life where the tasks span a wide range, and two days are rarely the same.

Aalborg Libraries consists of the Main Library and nine local libraries. Your primary workplace will be the Main Library, but some of your shifts may be at one of our smaller libraries. The fixed shift schedule includes one evening shift per week until 18:00, one every fourth Saturday, and one to two Sunday shifts per year.
