About the job

Do you want to be involved in developing the library as a democratic meeting place?

How do we create spaces for conversations between people who don’t necessarily share the same views? How do we bring more voices and perspectives into the conversation? And what role should the library play in a living local democracy?

At Aalborg Libraries we want to strengthen the library's role as a democratic meeting place. Therefore we are looking for a colleague who is focused on people and society and has strong competences in democratic dialogue, facilitation and citizen involvement.

You must be able to translate what is happening in society into conversations, events and communities where people have the opportunity to meet, become wiser and participate. Even when topics are difficult and perspectives are different.

You will help set the direction

We have ambitions for the library's democratic role, and you will help turn them into practice.

You will develop and test formats that invite citizens into the conversation, involve literature and give space for different perspectives. It can be debates and conversation salons, citizen involvement, current events or completely new formats that we have not yet thought of.

We imagine that you

  • have strong competences in conversation, facilitation and moderation
  • are curious about society and the questions that occupy people
  • can create space for constructive dialogue – also between people who disagree
  • are interested in literature and curious about what role it can play in democratic conversation.
  • are good at building relationships and collaborations with citizens, associations, organizations and other actors
  • have an eye for which voices and perspectives are missing, and how we invite them in

We imagine you have education at minimum bachelor level. You can be a librarian, anthropologist, sociologist, teacher or similar. The important thing is that you can bring people together and make the library relevant as a place for dialogue, participation and democracy.

What do you get with us?

You will become part of the Adult and Reading Culture area and a strong professional community with about 30 colleagues. You will have great freedom to develop ideas, test new initiatives and help shape how Aalborg Libraries work with democracy and participation.

Interaction with citizens is an important part of the job. Therefore you will also be part of our fixed duty schedule with 1-2 evening shifts per week until 6 pm, a shift every fourth Saturday, and one or two Sunday shifts per year.

Aalborg Libraries consists of the Central Library and nine branches. Your primary workplace will be the Central Library, but part of your fixed shifts may be located at one of our branches, and there may be substitutions at other libraries.

At Aalborg Libraries, people should be able to meet knowledge and perspectives they did not necessarily know before, and not necessarily agree with. We want to create open spaces for curiosity, participation and democratic dialogue.

Do you want to be part of it? Then we look forward to hearing from you.

The position is 37 hours per week with start on 1. xxx 2026. Salary and employment terms according to the applicable collective agreement.

If you want to know more, you are welcome to contact area manager Inge Tang Nannerup at phone 25 20 43 57 or [email protected] .

The application deadline is Wednesday the 04. November 2026. We expect to hold first interviews on Monday the 16. November 2026. The second interview round will take place on Monday 23.11.26 or Tuesday 24.11.26. Applicants progressing to the second interview must complete a Garuda personality profile prior to the second interview.
