About the job

Do you want to help develop the library as a democratic meeting place?

How do we create space for conversations between people who do not necessarily share the same views? How do we bring more voices and perspectives into the conversation? And what role should the library play in a living local democracy?

At Aalborg Libraries we want to strengthen the library's role as a democratic meeting place. Therefore we are looking for a colleague who is focused on people and society and has strong competencies in democratic dialogue, facilitation and citizen involvement.

You should be able to translate what moves in society into conversations, events and communities where people have the opportunity to meet, become wiser and participate. Even when topics are difficult and perspectives are different.

You should help set the direction

We have ambitions for the library's democratic role, and you should help translate them into practice.

You should develop and test formats that invite citizens into the conversation, involve literature and give space to different perspectives. It could be debates and conversation salons, citizen involvement, current events or completely new formats that we have not yet thought of.

We imagine that you

  • have strong competencies in conversation, facilitation and moderation
  • are curious about society and about the questions that occupy people
  • can create room for constructive dialogue – also between people who disagree
  • are interested in literature and curious about what role it can play in the democratic conversation.
  • are good at building relationships and collaborations with citizens, associations, organizations and other actors
  • have an eye for which voices and perspectives are missing, and how we invite them in

We imagine you have a minimum bachelor's level education. You can be a librarian, anthropologist, sociologist, teacher or similar. The crucial thing is that you can bring people together and make the library relevant as a place for dialogue, participation and democracy.

What do you get with us?

You will be part of the Adult and Reading Culture area and a strong professional community with about 30 colleagues. You will have great freedom to develop ideas, test new initiatives and help shape how Aalborg Libraries work with democracy and participation.

Meeting with citizens is an important part of the work. Therefore you will also be part of our fixed on-call schedule with 1-2 evening shifts per week until 6 pm, one duty every fourth Saturday, and one to two Sunday shifts per year.

Aalborg Libraries consist of the Main Library and nine branches. Your primary workplace will be the Main Library, but some of your regular shifts may be located at one of our branches, and there may be coverage at other libraries.

At Aalborg Libraries, people should be able to encounter knowledge and perspectives they did not necessarily know before, and may not necessarily agree with. We want to create open spaces for curiosity, participation and democratic dialogue.

Do you want to be part of that? Then we look forward to hearing from you.

The position is 37 hours with commencement on January 1, 2026. Salary and employment terms according to the applicable collective agreement.

If you want to know more, you are welcome to contact Area Manager Inge Tang Nannerup at telephone 25 20 43 57 or [email protected] .

The application deadline is Wednesday, November 4, 2026. We expect to conduct the first interviews on Monday, November 16, 2026. The second interview round will take place Monday, November 23 or Tuesday, November 24. Applicants who advance to the second interview round must complete a Garuda personality profile prior to the second interview.
