Can you build a hut in Skovhytten, comfort a child with a hug, and find the one mitten that isn’t lost, just well hidden 200 meters into the forest? And can you simultaneously provide professional direction and create learning environments where every child has a meaningful place? Then read on.

We are seeking an educator for a permanent 37-hour position in the kindergarten.

Who are we?

At Bøgeskov the day often starts with a “heeeeej!”, a couple of hugs, a bucket of sand and maybe a bit of porridge in the hair. And we love it. For us, everyday life is about security, curiosity and play, outdoors as well as indoors, carried by strong professionalism and a view of children that we take seriously.

Børnehuset Bøgeskov is a self-governing nature and movement institution in Fredericia North with about 75 children and 17 staff, and is part of Distrikt Institution Kirstinebjerg. We have 300 meters to the beach, 200 meters to the forest and the Green Sprouts flag at the top. The kindergarten groups use FDF Skovhytten in rotation, and we are closely connected with Kirstinebjerg School, Bøgeskovvej division. Many of our parents grew up here themselves.

With us, developing practice is not something we do because someone asks us to. It’s part of the way we understand our work.

Our professionalism and view of children

With us, professionalism and heart go together. Our view of children is: “All children do the best they can, given the prerequisites they have at the given moment.” It sounds simple, but it is quite radical when you take it seriously. When a child hits, screams or withdraws, it is not to annoy us. The child just does not have better tools available right now. Behavior is communication, and our task is to translate: what is the child trying to tell us?

Inspired by Tea Thyrre Sørensen, we are focused on the belief that all children need an Alfred: a safe adult to turn to for support and to draw courage from to explore the world. You are both a beacon and a caravan leader: clear in frameworks and direction, but tuned to the child’s feelings and needs.

Our pedagogical approach

• Detective rather than judge: we investigate what lies behind an action, rather than judging it. We still set clear boundaries, but with curiosity about the child behind the behavior.
• Relationships are the prerequisite for everything: the small moments of contact are not breaks from the work of pedagogy, they ARE the work.
• The adult as the child’s extra nervous system: small children cannot think themselves to calm, they borrow yours. Your calm, your pace and your tone are your most important tools.
• Present adults through positioning: we consciously distribute ourselves in three roles (activity, deepening, and practical adult), so the children meet present adults all day, also during transitions.
• Play as a pedagogical learning space: play is the core activity, not a break from it, and nature is our largest playground.
• Everyone should be part of the community: we have a special eye for children in vulnerable positions and work to ensure everyone has opportunities to participate in play.

Your task

Together with your colleagues you create safe, inclusive play and learning environments based on the strengthened pedagogical framework. You:

• are professionally trained as an educator and speak fluent “child language” (“and then a crab came…”)
• take pedagogical responsibility for play and the communities so that all children feel they belong
• plan, implement and evaluate processes based on the children’s group needs and your professional observations
• support language, formation and participation
• contribute to the professional community through reflection and sparring
• can play in rain without asking “what's the point?”
