About the job

Would you like to be a part of the world's largest humanitarian organization, where humanity is the core value, and do you have a strong commitment to creating safety and well-being for children in a vulnerable life situation – in a different and truly special workplace where your everyday efforts make a noticeable difference?

The Danish Red Cross asylum department is seeking a pedagogist or pedagogical worker for the Kindergarten at the Reception Center Sandholm.

Sandholm is a reception center for asylum seekers in Denmark and houses both singles and families with and without children. The children come from very different backgrounds, which requires high pedagogical expertise and strong relationship skills.

The pedagogical work is based on Asylum Pedagogy – an appreciative and structured approach with a focus on safety, relationships, and the children's well-being.

You will become part of a professional and experienced team with a focus on professional collaboration and shared pedagogical practice.

Our overall task is to create a safe, meaningful, and dignified everyday life with a future perspective for the children while they are in the asylum phase.

About the task

The position includes pedagogical work focused on the children's well-being and development in close cooperation with parents, colleagues, and the center's multidisciplinary actors such as social coordinators, psychologists, and health personnel.

The concrete tasks include, among others

  • Ensure developmental, safe, and pedagogically qualified daily care for children
  • Actively participate in the kindergarten's daily operations and task solving
  • Support and guide parents with a focus on maintaining and strengthening parenting capacity
  • Observe, assess, and document the children's well-being and development in order to identify special physical, psychological, or social needs
  • Contribute to the preparation and follow-up of pedagogical action plans for children and young people with special needs

A bit about you

You have a relevant pedagogical education and professional experience from e.g. a Kindergarten or Club – preferably from a multicultural environment. You are motivated to work professionally with children in vulnerable life positions and are good at establishing safe and trusting relationships with the children and their parents.

In addition, we value that

  • You are responsible and work in a structured and goal-oriented way in your task solving. You thrive in a daily life characterized by changes and are able to adapt in a context with a high degree of flux.
  • You have strong collaboration skills and can constructively participate in cross-disciplinary collaboration. Your pedagogical approach is characterized by curiosity, reflection, and inclusivity.
  • You communicate clearly and professionally and have good Danish writing skills for documentation work. You speak English at conversation level, and knowledge of other languages is an advantage.
  • Finally, you have good digital skills and are used to working with IT systems in daily operations.

We offer

  • A varied and challenging job in a politically governed organization with a strong humanitarian value base
  • Good opportunities for professional and personal development
  • A working environment with a focus on well-being, interdisciplinary cooperation, and knowledge sharing
  • A strong sense of community with competent, engaged, and motivated colleagues
  • The opportunity to make a concrete and meaningful difference in the lives of children and families
