About the job

Orthopedic surgical introductory posts in the Region of Southern Denmark.

Joint job advertisement for the four orthopedic surgery units responsible for training in introductory positions.

Sydvestjysk Sygehus Esbjerg-Grindsted

12 months in Esbjerg.

Sygehus Lillebælt Kolding-Vejle

3 months in Vejle and 9 months in Kolding - the program can start at either facility.

Sygehus Sønderjylland Aabenraa-Sønderborg

12 months in Aabenraa with sports medicine focus placement and independent operating days in Sønderborg.

OUH Svendborg-Odense

6 months in Svendborg and 6 months in Odense.

At the orthopedic departments in the Region of Southern Denmark we are seeking a number of doctors for introductory posts as of 1 March 2027.

All orthopedic departments in the Region of Southern Denmark have pledged to provide a good education for our future colleagues. From this, the course series below has been developed, and we all offer ATLS in the introductory training. The units meet four times a year to evaluate and maintain this good education.

About the departments

All departments have significant activity with both planned and acute functions within the orthopedic specialty, and you will be expected to handle a broad range of the specialty's functions, including the emergency department, trauma outpatient clinic, rounds and operations.

All departments have research units, where there is an opportunity to learn about and participate in research projects. Research is an important part of orthopedics, and therefore there is the possibility for both larger and smaller projects and support for that. Research is expected when you subsequently apply for a main specialty training.

All programs typically operate at two sites. This is to allow you to see and try as many subspecialties as possible within orthopedic surgery.

DOS, Danish Orthopedic Association, has a lot of information about the specialty on their website:

What is orthopedic surgery? - DOS (ortopaedi.dk)

On-call structure

You will typically participate in the mid-shift duty, where there is always a specialist in backup. Most places have more than one on-call physician for most of the time.

The on-call is either two-part or three-part.

There will be good introduction and supplementary side-by-side training before you go on call.

Courses

The region offers a complete program with a series of 6 courses plus a simulation course. In addition, there is the possibility to participate in a trauma reception course (ATLS).

By participating in this course series you build a good network among colleagues at the same level of training in the region, and get to know many of the senior doctors from the other sites.

Qualifications

You must be entitled to work independently and have the desire and interest to try the orthopedic surgical specialty.

After completing the introductory training you have the opportunity to apply for the main training.

We expect that

  • You will contribute actively to both your own education and positively to the departments' development.
  • You participate in internal teaching of doctors and nursing staff.
  • You demonstrate good collaboration skills.

If you have questions about the positions, you are welcome to contact the educationally responsible consultants:

Application

The positions are applied for electronically via the link below, and the application deadline is 17 November 2026 at 23:59.

Invitations to interviews will be sent on 1 December 2026.

Recruitment interviews for all positions will be held on 14 December 2026 at Kolding Hospital.

Please prioritize the programs you are applying for.

Remember to attach any operation lists, use the DOS OP list, teaching experience with the number of confrontation hours and documentation of research. We would like a photo attached to your CV.
