About Ward 2

Ward 2 is part of the sensorimotor subspecialty and treats patients whose sequelae of acquired brain injury are predominantly characterized by severe sensorimotor issues such as sensory disturbances, paresis, dysphagia and/or dystonic conditions. At the same time, many patients have cognitive difficulties such as consciousness disturbances, aphasia, apraxia or neglect.

We work in interdisciplinary teams around each patient. The immediate team consists of physiotherapists, occupational therapists, nurses, social and health care assistants and the treating physician. The team is supplemented by speech therapists, neuropsychologists, social workers and dietitians.

As an occupational therapist you are employed in the ward and the day is planned in collaboration with your interdisciplinary colleagues based on the patients’ needs and the goals of neurorehabilitation.

The occupational therapy approach is characterized by

  • Use of activity- and participation-oriented approaches in assessment and treatment in different contexts. Activity analysis in assessment and as a starting point for intervention is an important tool.
  • Facilitating meaningful activities and participation and incorporating current resources.
  • Initiatives at the body level as a prerequisite for activity and participation, for example we use FOTT, Bobath and GTIT.
  • Targeted and experimental planning and grading of activity and environment.
  • Working with challenges, demands and considerations with both developmental and compensatory aims in the patient’s zone of proximal development.
  • Contributing to the development of life enthusiasm and motivation for rehabilitation and recovery.
  • Involvement and collaboration with patient and relatives.

The patient group has complex issues and therefore often requires a high degree of creativity in using your occupational therapy approach in the patient’s neurorehabilitation.

Professional excellence is naturally at the forefront, while we also emphasize a good work environment.
