About the job

Frederiksberg Municipality seeks a school principal for the School at Nordens Plads – a special school with a clear child-centric view and an important task of creating learning and development opportunities for children and young people with special needs.

A special school with ambitions for all pupils

At the School at Nordens Plads, children and young people with various and complex needs attend. The reasons why the students express special needs include, among other things, severe general learning difficulties, pervasive developmental disorders, as well as social and emotional difficulties.

The school's starting point is that all children and young people should have the opportunity to develop, learn and succeed. Everyone belongs, and everyone has something to contribute. Based on this view of children, the school works, among other things, with mentalization, low arousal and visually structured pedagogy.

The school has about 220 pupils and 180 staff and is organized in two streams with different target groups within the special education field. In addition to the principal, the management consists of six professional leaders, of whom one has a deputy head function.

Your role

As the school leader you have the overall responsibility for the school's operations and development. You lead directly on many tasks, but to a great extent also through the professional leaders.

You have a central task of creating stability and continuity in the school's daily life, as well as cultivating and developing a strong leadership community. You must ensure coherence between the school's special pedagogical expertise, operations and quality in practice.

You are a relationally strong leader who meets children, parents and staff at eye level with curiosity and respect. You actively take shared responsibility for and contribute to the development of the overall school system.

We are seeking a school principal who

  • Is educated as a teacher and has solid experience from the school sector, preferably as a school leader.
  • Has experience with the special school sector and special education issues.
  • Has a leadership education at a minimum diploma level and preferably experience in leading leaders.
  • Can set clear direction and translate it into practice in a politically governed organization.
  • Has an eye for the coherence between pedagogy, operations, economy and organization.
  • Prioritizes collaboration with the MED committee, the school board, parents and other partners.
  • Takes joint responsibility for the development of the overall school system and actively contributes to the cross-cutting school leadership community.

As a leader you are

  • Clear and inclusive – you create calm, direction and followership.
  • Relationally strong – you meet children and adults at eye level and build trust.
  • Persistent – you maintain the direction and follow your priorities through to the end.
  • Pragmatic and decisive – you keep an overview and find solutions within the organization that work in practice.
  • Involving – you create engagement through dialogue and inclusion.

We offer

  • A meaningful leadership role where you can make a difference for children and young people.
  • An engaged staff group with special pedagogical expertise that you can build on and develop.
  • A leadership team in which you will have a central role to bring together and develop.
  • A close and trusting collaboration with parents and other partners on the pupils’ well-being and development.
  • A strong and committed school leadership community in a school system with high ambitions and opportunities to influence development.
  • A common municipal leadership framework based on Good School Leadership.
