About the job

Do you want to manage the finances of the Defence's supply chain?

Do you have strong analytical skills and the willingness to manage budgets, payroll and materiel operations in an organization of national significance?

Do you want to be the trusted financial advisor who provides an overview of complex appropriations and settlement funds for the management?

-Then you may be our new financial professional!

About us

You will become part of the Control Section (STS) in the Operations and Governance Department (OS) in Ballerup.

We ensure unified and efficient management of the supply chain by creating overview, driving digitalisation and supporting timely decisions across the entire Defence.

With us, professionalism is high, the atmosphere informal and collaboration close, where we help, challenge and spar with each other in everyday work.

"As an economist in STS you will have a central key role close to the management, helping to secure the financial foundation for our overall logistical operations," says department head Maja.

About the position

As our new financial professional you will have the overall financial overview in the division. You balance between the near-operating economy for the “own operation” and the large strategic appropriations for materiel operations and settlement funds.

You will become a central sparring partner for the section heads and work closely with the Finance Department in the Defence Materiel and Procurement Agency on resource management and payroll. In addition to the core financial tasks you will have the opportunity to optimise workflows and provide general case handling to support the section.

Your primary responsibilities include the following areas

  • Ongoing operations and cost management for the sections, including budgeting, monthly follow-up and management of capacity- and activity-based pay.
  • Payroll management and forecasts in close coordination with the Finance Department in FMI regarding annualized headcount, resources and competences.
  • Management of the Materiel Operations Plan (MDP) as well as controlling and follow-up on KAMI funds (capacity- and materiel investments).
  • Handling and follow-up on settlement disbursement , periodic settlement submissions and maintenance of the division's prokura matrix.
  • Management reporting and process optimization , including development of management dashboards in Excel/Power BI and maintenance of the financial structure in DeMars.

As Defence has units across the country, some travel activity is expected of about 5–10 days per year to our other locations. We ensure thorough training and offer ongoing continuing education and professional courses.

About you

You are motivated by numbers, structure and complex interrelations. You can convey financial issues in an easily understandable way so that leaders at all levels can act on your analyses.

Professional qualifications (need-to-have)

  • Educational background: Relevant economics education (e.g., HD-R, Cand.merc., Cand.oecon., finance bachelor or practical experience).
  • Financial management: Documented experience with budgeting, budget follow-up and payroll management in a larger company or public administration.
  • Data and analysis: Strong skills in Excel (pivot, lookups, modeling) and a flair for management reporting (preferably Power BI).
  • System knowledge (nice-to-have): Prior knowledge of DeMars (SAP CO/PS) and transaction codes.
  • Defense understanding (nice-to-have): Knowledge of government appropriation rules, settlement structures or materiel operations in the Defence.

Personal qualities

  • Analytical and structured with an eye for both the detail in the spreadsheet and the big picture.
  • Proactive and self-driven with a desire to take ownership of your own tasks and processes.
  • Good collaboration and communication skills in daily interactions with managers, military colleagues and administrative specialists.
  • Solution-oriented and flexible , when the financial conditions and priorities change.

Terms of employment

If you are an academic, you will be employed under the then-current collective agreement between the Ministry of Finance and a number of academic organizations for academics in the state (Academic Agreement).

If you have an office education or another relevant education you will be employed under the then-current General Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and Public Employees Organizations – The Public Sector (OAO-S General Agreement) and the organizational agreement for office clerks, laboratory technicians and IT staff.

Depending on your qualifications and competencies, there is a possibility for negotiating supplements. The position is attached to an employer-funded pension scheme.

The workplace is in Ballerup.

As an employee within the Ministry of Defence you are subject to some special terms. You must, among other things, be able to obtain and maintain security clearance throughout your employment.
