About the job

Would you like to gain experience with clarifying conversations, group programs and the NGO sector –

all to help people in difficult life situations?

Then you might be the new intern for our conversation groups at Frivilligcenter Aarhus!

Your tasks

Our conversation groups are an offer to people in difficult life situations to participate in a group with others who share the same challenge. In the groups, you meet with like-minded individuals, exchange experiences, and receive support to cope with challenging situations or life circumstances. The groups are facilitated by volunteer group leaders. You can read more about our conversation groups here: https://frivilligcenteraarhus.dk/selvhjaelp-samtalegrupper . Your tasks will be a selection of the following tasks:

  • Administration and coordination: As an intern attached to our conversation groups, you will be the first to answer calls and emails from people in difficult life situations. You will help determine whether the groups are the right offering for them, enroll them on waiting lists, or refer them to another offering. There will also be tasks related to the start-up of groups, including invitations and participant lists.
  • Pre-screenings: We conduct both telephone and in-person pre-screenings, where you will be responsible for making outbound calls, coordinating invitations, and conducting the in-person pre-screenings, which align expectations between the participant and the conversation group initiative.
  • Group leader for a conversation group: For each group, there are 1-2 volunteer group leaders who help establish clear boundaries for the group’s interactions and conversations. If you are interested, you can have your own group and you will of course be trained for the role of group leader via a basic training, ongoing sparring, group supervision, and upskilling courses.
  • Project work: In the spring we have several projects associated with our conversation groups: 1) conversation groups for men and 2) diagnosis groups (ADHD and autism). In connection with the projects you can take on tasks such as coordination, research, outreach work, and establishing collaborations.
  • Communication and visibility work: We continuously work on making our offerings visible, so you can also take on communication tasks such as preparing flyers, posters, social media materials, and other visibility work.

Your tasks will be adjusted to your interests, competencies, and wishes for the internship. You will naturally receive an introduction to and support for all your tasks.

We imagine that

  • You are pursuing a relevant higher education (social work, humanities, health sciences, or similar)
  • Have understanding of and experience with working with people in difficult life situations
  • Are independent, able to maintain overview, and are organized

It is also advantageous if you have experience with voluntary social work.

With us you get

  • A meaningful internship where you make a difference for people in difficult life situations
  • Independent and diverse tasks
  • Familiarity with and network within the NGO sector
  • Professional sparring with colleagues and ongoing support from an internship supervisor

We are a small secretariat consisting of a manager, 7 employees and a couple of other interns. In addition, there is a group of volunteers. We are an informal workplace where there is room for diversity and social aspects are highly valued.

The practical

The internship is 30-37 hours per week with flexible hours. There may be meetings in the evening. The position is expected to start from February to the summer holiday. We are flexible regarding classes and exams. The internship is unpaid. Your daily workplace will be Frivilligcenter Aarhus, Sønder Allé 33, 8000 Aarhus C.
