About the job

We are seeking a professionally strong, visible and approachable leader who, together with the staff, will set the direction for the development of our acute surgical ward.

As Chief Nurse in the acute surgical ward you will lead a well-functioning department with responsibility for staff, nursing and operations. You will become an important part of the management team and will set the course for both daily operations and the continued development of the department.

We particularly emphasize

That you are a leader who combines high professional expertise with human insight. You create results through the staff and meet others with respect, curiosity and clarity. You believe that good patient pathways, high quality and a strong work environment are closely interconnected.

We also emphasize that you have a pragmatic approach to leadership and see the value in strong collaboration across departments. We see great value in the fact that the head nurses in our wards are united in solving daily challenges - from patient pathways to staffing during illness, etc. It is important that all our wards thrive in a community, and that we together focus on the department’s overall mission and operations rather than just the individual ward.

About the department

Department of Gastrointestinal Diseases is one unified gastroenterology unit, consisting of one medical and one surgical pillar with one common endoscopy unit. Many patients require both medical and surgical gastroenterology expertise, and the organization supports cohesive patient pathways and strong multidisciplinary collaboration.

The department consists of four wards, a medical clinic, a surgical clinic, an endoscopy unit and a large secretariat. In addition, the department has a strong research profile, where a significant portion of the research originates from the clinical daily life and is developed in close interaction with patient treatment.

About the ward

The Acute Surgical Ward receives and cares for patients with acute surgical conditions around the clock. In the ward we have rapid assessment and short-stay surgical pathways. The ward is characterized by high professional complexity, close multidisciplinary collaboration and a culture where quality, learning and patient-centered pathways go hand in hand.

The ward has 26 beds.

We have 35 engaged staff members employed, who are proud of their profession and of working in an environment with high activity, strong collegiality and a focus on continuous development. All positions are filled, and you will take over the responsibility for a very well-run ward.

Your leadership responsibility

As Chief Nurse you will be responsible for the nursing professional and operational leadership of the ward:

  • Staff leadership and staff development.
  • Ensuring high professional quality and patient safety.
  • Development of nursing and support of evidence-based practice.
  • Responsibility for operations, resource management and capacity.
  • Further development of a good working environment characterized by well-being, trust and a sense of community.
  • Close collaboration with the department’s other leaders and partners.
  • Contribute to strategic initiatives and the development of the department’s overall patient pathways.

You will be a leader in a strong professional community

The ward is supported by clinical nurse specialists, clinical supervisors and multidisciplinary partners, including a pharmaconomist, dietitians, physiotherapists, acute surgeons and junior doctors.

You will become part of a strong leadership community across the medical and surgical pillars with a focus on cohesive patient pathways and shared leadership development.

We are looking for a Chief Nurse who

  • Has solid clinical experience, preferably from surgical specialties and the acute area.
  • Has leadership experience and preferably a relevant management education.
  • Is professionally ambitious and works purposefully with quality and patient safety.
  • Practices an appreciative, inclusive and trust-based leadership style.
  • Is visible and accessible to staff, patients and partners.
  • Has strong relational skills and builds followership through dialogue.
  • Can create balance between operations, development and well-being.
  • Has the courage to set direction and drive changes in collaboration with staff.
  • Sees the value in multidisciplinary collaboration and shared solutions across our wards

We look forward to hearing from you
