About the job

Become Head of Department for day care in Frederikssund and strengthen pedagogical quality and leadership

The day care area is in a new and exciting period – come and join!

We have undergone a major restructuring from area leadership to autonomous leadership. We are already seeing very good results, and it will be you who will lead the positive development, well supported by skilled and engaged day care leaders and consultants.

The early years are crucial for the rest of a person’s life, and in Frederikssund Municipality we are very aware of the great responsibility that rests on us. We believe one of the most important tasks is to ensure our smallest fellow citizens’ well-being, learning, development and formation. Therefore, we will continue to strengthen the local, pedagogical leadership of quality, work communities and parent collaboration in all kindergartens.

Your role and your tasks

You will become an important bridge-builder between the central and the decentralized part of the organization, and you will help the day care leaders navigate safely with regard to the context in which they must operate.

The core task in the day care area is to support the children’s learning, well-being, development and formation in our day nurseries, kindergartens and after-school centers. Of course, it requires a large and sustained attention from the new head of department to support the day care leaders individually – and across – in ensuring high quality in the pedagogical task solutions, local processes on empowerment and work communities, stable operation, good financial management and staffing control.

It is essential that you undertake this task by creating followership, motivation, direction and cohesion through an inclusive, listening and collaborative leadership style.

You must be a unifying head of department who can build a close collegiality, a common identity and a trust-building work culture, based on openness and an informal tone, across your entire area. You will have a close collaboration with the head of the department for school and club. Together you must ensure coherence between the two areas and keep an eye on the joint task solution across them.

Well-being and psychological safety are important cornerstones of your leadership practice, and you are focused on continuously supporting a good working environment and a strong attachment to the organization, in a staff group with great diversity.

What you bring

You have a relevant advanced education, and you are leadership-proficient with a master’s or a diploma education.

Your expertise in child-related matters is solid, and you have a strong passion for the child sector in general, and particularly the 0–6 year area.

You have concrete experience in leading others, both managers and staff, as you will be the immediate boss for 32 day care leaders, one day care center manager, the placement guidance, one team leader for special- and development-educators and 5 pedagogical consultants. In your leadership you create enthusiasm and professional drive, and you know how to bring different professionalities and functions into play through inclusion and recognition. You are able to lead in a differentiated manner, where there is room to explore different solutions.

As a leader you have achieved good results regarding the working environment, well-being and attachment to the workplace. You embrace broadly, and can both lead closely to others’ core tasks and lead from a distance.

Overall we place emphasis on the fact that you have

  • Solid child-related knowledge and a strong commitment to the 0–6 year area.
  • Experience with leading a day-care institution and leading both managers and staff.
  • Experience from a politically governed organization and understanding of the interplay between politics, administration and practice.
  • Good results with professional development, working environment and well-being.
  • Ability to combine strategic overview with presence-based leadership and safe operations.
  • A relevant advanced education and a leadership extension at diploma or master level.
  • Ability to be an active strategic sparring and collaboration partner for the center chief with a view to the overall organizational and political agenda.
  • Ability to create and maintain a trusting and constructive collaboration with the professional organizations and the MED system as a key prerequisite for development, change and good work communities.

We have the commitment, professionalism and the desire to develop together. Now we are looking for you to lead the next steps and hold fast to what we are here for: to create a daily life of high quality for all children.
