About the job

Would you like to help set the direction and create the framework for a high-quality special pedagogical treatment offer?

Sofieskolen is seeking an engaged and clear department head for our children and youth home, Sofiebo, located at Damsagervej 9, 3500 Værløse.

About us

Sofieskolen's children and youth home is a special educational treatment offer for 16 children and youths aged 7-18 with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

We work systematically and holistically with high professionalism, fixed procedures and close interdisciplinary collaboration – including with psychologists, social workers and teachers.

Our pedagogy takes its starting point from the individual child’s and the individual youth’s needs and is based on the principles of TEACCH and Studio III, combined with a clear and predictable daily structure.

The position

As department head you will be responsible for the daily operations, staff management and pedagogical development in your department at Sofiebo. You report to the principal and deputy principal and become part of Sofieskolen's overall leadership team.

You will play a central role in ensuring quality in the pedagogical work, developing the staff and creating frames for a safe and developmentally nurturing environment for the children and youths.

Your tasks span wide and include both operations and development, including

  • Overall pedagogical leadership and supervision
  • Planning, development and implementation of pedagogical initiatives and projects
  • Staff management, including conversations, sparring, competence development, well-being and working environment
  • Parental collaboration, including meetings, newsletters and ongoing dialogue
  • Recruitment and employment of staff
  • Financial and budget responsibility, including supervision of residents’ pocket money
  • Occupational health and safety, meeting structure and staff involvement
  • Development planning for both staff and department
  • Collaboration with internal and external partners.

As department head you plan your own working hours taking into account the department’s operations and tasks.

Since Sofiebo is a 24-hour department, the position also includes weekend duty as part of the joint management coverage. The current arrangement entails duty every other weekend. In a six-week cycle there are two weekends with physical presence and one weekend with on-call duty without fixed presence. The concrete arrangement will be agreed further with the other management and follow a common plan, with the possibility of time off at other times during the week.

We are looking for you who

  • Are a trained pedagogue – preferably with relevant postgraduate or continuing education
  • Have experience with the special education field and/or management
  • Have a clear and appreciative leadership style
  • Can create structure, overview and safe frames for both children and staff
  • Are professionally strong and thrive in close interdisciplinary collaboration
  • Contribute to good cooperation and maintain calm and overview in a demanding everyday life.

We offer

  • An exciting leadership position with great influence on the department’s development
  • Dedicated colleagues and a strong interdisciplinary collaboration
  • A professional environment focused on special education, development and high quality
  • A workplace with room to breathe and room for ideas
  • Opportunity for flexible scheduling
  • Health insurance.
