About the job

The digital and operational transformation of the Defence is underway. If you have leadership experience, in-depth knowledge of digital governance and IT governance, and an interest in the defence sector, here is the opportunity to become part of our executive group in a newly established division

About us

NATO and the Danish Defence are facing a comprehensive digital and operational transformation to meet future challenges. The security policy situation and especially Russia's actions in Ukraine make the transformation even more necessary. The transformation is time-critical and involves a cyber-secure, technological, digital and data-centric modernization of the Ministry of Defence's group.

The aim is that the Defence in the future can conduct Multi-Domain Operations within the framework of NATO, nationally and with partners, emergency services and civilian actors.

About the position

We are seeking a competent and experienced leader for the Digital Governance and Federated IT Governance section. Specifically, the section shall contribute to setting the overarching frameworks and guidelines for IT development and operation, ensuring that the Defence's operational needs and Defence IT across the group are aligned. As part of this task, the section shall among other things service the Division for Data, IT and Governance, the IT staff and the rest of the group at board level.

The Division and the section lead the development of a future coherent IT architecture and the implementation of a data-centric, federated IT organization. Therefore we collaborate with national as well as international (NATO) partners across borders and domains. The purpose is to ensure that the Defence operates securely and creates operational effect in peace, crisis and war.

You and your team constitute the professional expertise within digital governance and federated IT governance, and you thus occupy a central position in the organization. You shall, together with a team of specialists, assist the division’s leadership with advice on digital governance and federated IT governance at a strategic level, and to a large extent help shape the direction of the Defence's digital development.

This means that as section head you will participate in cross-disciplinary collaborations, and must be able to support the digital development covering the five domains land, air, maritime, cyber, space, and the rest of the defence group.

Furthermore you will be responsible for driving the execution of board-level meetings in the Strategic Data-, IT-, Architecture Governance Board (SIDA) and for running the management secretariat attached to SIDA. The SIDA Secretariat consists of experienced IT architects and other technically heavy IT specialists for whom you have management responsibility. In collaboration you ensure the operation, maintenance and further development of the group's digital governance and federated IT governance.

Thus, this is an exciting new role to support the digital foundation for the Defence's digital and operational transformation.

About you

We expect that you have experience leading professionally skilled specialists - presumably from the public sector (e.g., from a ministry or an agency) - and preferably with experience from the Defence. You can contribute with knowledge and experience within digitization, transformation and IT, and in your previous roles you have worked purposefully on governance and management.

We imagine that you have an academic education at master’s level, preferably cand.scient.pol, and that you can maintain an overview in a broad task spectrum ranging from strategic advisory to operation of decision-making processes at the board level.

You navigate confidently in a complex field of interests with many stakeholders, and you possess well-developed situational awareness and judgment. You will have extensive touchpoints, and to succeed as section head it is important that you can build and nurture relationships across the group.

The role includes a large managerial and autonomous responsibility, and requires that you are persistent and follow up tasks through to completion. You keep a cool head, maintain an overview and are collaborative—even in tense situations—without compromising your professionalism. With the management responsibility for a team of experienced IT architects and specialists, it is also important that you are a “people-person,” who is attentive and appreciative in your approach.

We are in the middle of a transformation that requires flexibility and handling of ad-hoc tasks. You work in a structured manner and are skilled at prioritizing—while we remember to keep humor and give each other a high-five when we succeed together with the team on common challenges.

You thrive in a workday with varied tasks and tight deadlines. You communicate fluently in Danish and English, both in writing and speech.

Employment terms

The appointment is in accordance with the current agreement between the Ministry of Finance and a number of academic organizations for academics in the state (Academic Agreement).

Depending on your qualifications and competences, there is a possibility for negotiating an allowance. There is an employer-financed pension scheme linked to the position.

The workplace is in Greater Copenhagen, Ballerup

As an employee within the Ministry of Defence, you are subject to certain special conditions. You must, among other things, be security cleared and maintain the security clearance throughout the employment.

You have as an employee an obligation to be deployed outside the country, including at units in international operations with a view to participating in conflict prevention, peacekeeping, peace-building, humanitarian and other similar operations.
