About the department

Department of Musculoskeletal and Connective Tissue Diseases handles diagnostic, monitoring and treatment of patients with arthritis, connective tissue and vasculitis as well as disc and spine diseases. In our daily clinic we use, among others, ultrasound diagnostics, joint injections, muscle and skin biopsies as well as joint scoring and manual spine examination procedures, which are highly valued.

Rheumatology is a broad specialty, thus the Department of Musculoskeletal and Connective Tissue Diseases, Aalborg, has many outpatient tracks e.g. arthritis outpatient, biological outpatient, vasculitis and connective tissue outpatient, uric arthritis outpatient, discopathy outpatient, sports medicine shoulder outpatient as well as a large day department and a ward in Hospital City.

There are good opportunities for participation in research projects.

The department places emphasis on good and coherent patient pathways, interdisciplinary collaboration, research and development. In addition, a good collegial environment is highly prioritized. We work deliberately to deliver education of younger doctors of the highest quality and have thus received several education prizes – most recently the Health Authority's prize for the best rheumatology education department in April 2022 and top scorer at the latest Inspector visit in 2025.

The work organization in the department accommodates the education of younger doctors with parallel outpatient clinics in smaller teams, master-apprentice situations and good conference opportunities. We expect you to actively participate in the well-functioning work community we have in the department, where everyone contributes to development, teaching and education.

When employed at the Department of Musculoskeletal and Connective Tissue Diseases you will participate in day work in the Rheumatology Inpatient Ward, day unit and outpatient clinic. In the introductory position you will deal with all facets of rheumatology for both outpatient and hospitalized patients, and during the employment you will acquire basic skills in rheumatology and broad foundational knowledge within the entire internal medical area. There is participation in on-call duties in the medical area.

Both ward rounds and on-call functions are in Hospital City. The outpatient functions will take place on the South Campus. In the second half of the position there will be the possibility of external deployment in Thisted together with a consultant a few days per month.
